New mega-bar The Sporting Globe makes its Gold Coast debut at Robina Town Centre

With round-the-clock live-screen action, ice-cold beer towers, refreshing cocktails and finger-licking American fare, The Sporting Globe at Robina Town Centre has quickly become a popular day-and-night haven for lovers of live sports, quality eats and top-notch drinks.

The Details
Located along The Promenade dining precinct at Robina Town Centre, The Sporting Globe boasts a mammoth capacity of 330-plus seats, with a blend of group tables and booths, bar seating and sun-kissed outdoor lounges – and no matter where you park yourself, you’re guaranteed views of one of its 50-plus televisions screening live sporting action. Owned by local brothers Mark and Brad Vigus, the new venue marks the first-ever Gold Coast location for The Sporting Globe brand (which was founded in 2010 by Signature Hospitality Group and has 15 locations nation-wide) and aims to capture the steadfast sports supporters and the humble novices who appreciate a good match-up – as well as locals hunting for a tasty burger and a rack of ribs, or simply a place to grab a cold beer or a colourful cocktail.

The Food
Whether sports are your jam or not, The Sporting Globe’s seasonal food menu will surely please the crowds. The signature wings (either in a dry rub or doused in sauce) are a good place to start before turning your attention to the ‘warm ups’ section – think mac’n’cheese bites, buffalo chicken tacos, and eye-popping cheeseburger loaded fries, which arrive topped with a ground beef patty and swimming in melted American cheddar, diced pickles and mayo. There’s a wide selection of mouth-watering burgers on offer (including gluten-free options and a vegan burger), as well as grilled steaksslow-cooked beef and pork ribs, loaded chicken wraps, and – for some balance – a series of nourishing bowls. There’s also a hefty list of chicken parmigiana varieties for the parmy connoisseurs out there – prepared fresh to order, each is panko crumbed by hand before being grilled and baked (rather than fried) and served with toppings like the Hawaiian (charred pineapple, jalapenos, salsa and bacon) and the Cheeseburger (beef patty, bacon, pickles, mozzarella).

The Drinks
Behind the bar you’ll find an equally mighty offering, with rows of local and international beers on tap (plus tinnies and stubbies), as well as a collection of wines, ciders and spirits. Those keen to let their hair down with a cocktail can sip a range of colourful concoctions by the jam jar, share the love with big-as-your-head cocktail jugs, or kick back with one of the signatures – think spiced pina coladas, watermelon margaritas and Oreo espresso martinis.
