The round-up: get hot under the collar for the coast’s tastiest Reuben sandwiches

We're all for a good sandwich, but if we're scouring a menu and see a Reuben, we just cannot say no. There's just something about these American delights that really speaks to us – that delectable combination of hot corned beef or pastrami, lovingly sandwiched alongside sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing in between rye bread is quite literally what dreams are made of. In honour of our all-time favourite, we've compiled a very helpful list of where to get a damn tasty Reuben sandwich on the Gold Coast.

Rockleigh Cafe, Coolangatta: Perched along Griffith Street, this sun-kissed hang is well known for its honest and soul-warming homestyle fare. The Rockleigh Reuben is a real winner, with pickled silverside, housemade sauerkraut, aioli, mustard and cheese sandwiched between fresh-baked local sourdough.

Iron & Resin Garage, Currumbin: Alongside the motorcycles, killer coffee and sweet threads is a seriously tasty sandwich line-up, which naturally includes a Reuben. Here you’ll find local sourdough brimming with pastrami, slaw, Swiss cheese, pickles and chipotle mayonnaise for a cheeky twist – all served with a fistful of fries.

Sandwich Bros, Surfers Paradise: These guys sure know how to craft the perfect sambo. While there are plenty of daily specials here, the hot Reuben is a permanent fixture, with pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and house dressing. It’s then toasted until it’s crispy and golden brown on the outside and deliciously warm on the inside.

M&G Cafe, Broadbeach: You can get a Reuben any time of day at M&G Cafe at The Star Gold Coast – this bad boy features lightly toasted fresh rye bread topped with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, seeded mustard and Russian dressing. Plus, it’s served with a basket full of fries. Yes please.

Pinky’s, Nobby Beach: You’ll greatly appreciate both the name and the taste of Pinky’s Reuben. The Ted Danson sees rye bread piled high with pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and mustard mayo – treat yo’self to a cup of fries on the side.

NYC Bagel Deli, Robina: We’re firm believers that bagels make everything better. NYC Bagel Deli piles fresh-baked bagels high with pastrami, Swiss cheese, dill pickles and sauerkraut and a punchy Russian dressing to create its Reuben and it’s a great vibe.

Brooklyn Depot, Surfers Paradise: This all-American eatery does a hearty take on the Reuben, with thick pastrami slices, Swiss cheese, sliced pickles, wholegrain mustard mayonnaise and sauerkraut, all sandwiched between toasted rye bread. In true style, a handful of salty potato crisps are thrown on the side for your nibbling pleasure.

Stable, Currumbin: This health-conscious hang has a focus on real food and local produce – and the passionate chefs have put a darn tasty twist on a traditional Reuben. The grilled sambo is made with organic corned beef, red cabbage, mustard and cauliflower cheese and is served with a pickle and a side of fries.

Meat Buns, various locations: Look guys, we’re aware these aren’t sandwiches, but Meat Buns is worthy of a spot on this list. Not only do they passionately encase thick-sliced salted pastrami, pickles and three cheese inside a golden pizza-dough bun (aka a meat bun) there is also a Reuben spring roll on the menu. Yes, a Reuben spring roll exists – it’s filled with succulent pastrami beef, drizzled with Russian sauce and mustard and topped with diced pickles and onion. You need this in your life.
