What began as popular pitstop for caffeinating on the run has grown into something much, much more for the locals behind Pretty Handsome. Hindered by a lack of space rather than ambition, the venue was previously limited to grab-and-go food options. When COVID-19 reared its ugly head, the owners saw their loyal fan base was hurting and they wanted to spread a little joy whilst continuing to support all of their suppliers and so, the $10 burger was born. As it turns out, people really really like burgers and the (COVID safe) line for takeaways began to grow. In fact, the little cafe got so busy that when the opportunity to take over the neighbouring premises suddenly appeared, the savvy owners jumped on it and immediately got to work creating a space for locals to congregate and enjoy a brew with mates over a quality feed. With a kind of grungy dive bar aesthetic complete with an array of band posters and some seating, Pretty Handsome may not boast the flashiest fit-out but that’s all part of its charm.
As for the eats, Pretty Handsome boasts a solid menu of morning bites ranging from the classic eggs Benny through to a seriously stuffed burrito packed with bacon or chorizo, egg, avocado, spinach, salsa, hot sauce and sour cream. Coffee is still a staple with Seven Miles’ Wilde blend flowing through the machines alongside milkshakes and smoothies. From midday, the menu flips to include its famous $10 burger selection with five mouth-watering options ranging from the classic cheese through to the devilishly crispy southern-fried chicken with creamy slaw, salads and the popular nachos, which is topped with your choice of slow-cooked beef (yum!), grilled chicken or mushrooms and grilled capsicum. Thursdays are all about tacos with two tacos and fries for just ten dollarbucks so gather your frugal friends. As for the drinks, Pretty Handsome is licensed from 10:00 am so if you’re on struggle street, its famous bloody Mary will have you feeling human but there’s also a selection of local beers on tap including Lost Palms, Black Hops and Young Henrys. Fancy a cocktail? They have those too! There’s a classic marg, espresso martini and a lime and passionfruit mojito, to name a few. If you enjoy good, honest food loaded with flavour not pretence, Pretty Handsome is definitely your vibe.
