It’s all about the coffee at Currumbin’s new Portside espresso bar

Seriously, we've fallen in love with Currumbin Creek Road. This little southern pocket that connects the M1 to Currumbin Valley and the beach is a hive of activity with everything from arts and yoga, to cafes and homewares stores. So, when local barista Jeremy Lawnikanis decided to dive into his first venture, Portside Coffee, this location was a no-brainer.

After doing his time as a barista across some of the Gold Coast’s top venues, Jeremy decided to set sail on his own space where he could make it well and truly all about the coffee. Well, there are still some delicious home-made treats to get down the hatch, but at the end of the day – coffee is (always) king. Portside’s quaint, timber-clad space is nestled just behind the newly opened Gather homewares store. You can pull up a stool at the window, down your espresso and get going, or there is plenty of garden-bound seating those that want to sit and savour your coffee … and eat a cookie in peace.

Portside is the only Gold Coast venue to be pouring blends from Melbourne’s renowned Sensory Lab, which is pretty darn cool. Put these beans in the hands of one talented, coffee-obsessed gent, and you know you’re in for a bangin’ brew. The fit-out truly embraces its namesake nautical theme, and the touches of timber, grey and white make this little gem pretty hard to miss. Look, we’re suckers for fine detail when it comes to fit-outs, so the hints of brass on the doors, the light switches, the milk jug-sink and brass-handled cups really satisfies our keen eye. If you fancy a cold-brew you’re in luck, and if you’re not a coffee drinker (firstly, are you okay?), then you’ll be looked after with coconut smoothies and iced treats.
