A new family-run specialty coffee house dishing up a food menu dotted with highlights of Serbian cuisine has opened in the heart of Runaway Bay. Pod 6 Coffee is the new kid on the block, joining Vietnamese favourite Can Tho Kitchen in the Runaway Oasis precinct, located just a stone's throw from Harbour Town Shopping Centre.


Northern folk hunting for a caffeine fix will find a local organic blend by Surfers Paradise-based roaster Paradox Coffee on pour daily at Pod 6, while those fond of espresso or filter can mix up their morning hit with the choice of two single origins, which will rotate monthly. Not only is Pod 6 a haven for specialty brews, it’s also armed with a constantly evolving breakfast and brunch menu that covers the classics, while also keeping locals intrigued with hints of Serbian influence.

Start with eggs Benedict (sided with dollops of avocado, hommus and spiced-beetroot dip), fluffy Belgian waffles topped with fresh fruit and lashings of maple syrup, a hearty bacon and egg sando – or keep it light with a vibrant granola and fruit bowl topped with coconut yoghurt and local fruits. The all-day brunch menu introduces more substantial eats like housemade cevapi (Serbian skinless sausages) served traditionally with onion and ajvar, a range of burgers including a Serbian-style hand-held number with a cevapi-like secret patty, bacon, cheese and ajvar, and a towering vegan burger with plant-based aioli and cheese. There’s also a cabinet of decadent housemade cakes and tasty treats, which rotate on the daily.
