Pavement Whispers: whisky bars, pastry havens and craft-beer collabs

From whispers of new patisseries to craft-beer dens, The Weekend Edition Gold Coast is always on the search for the latest news on the Gold Coast, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Aux Fines Bouches
Love sweet things? Then listen in. Burleigh’s industrial hub is about to get an authentic French patisserie by the name of Aux Fines Bouches. While it may be new for the Gold Coast, Aux Fines Bouches, owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Sophie and Richard Le Deunff, has been operating in Adelaide for the past 12 years. The duo have made the move north to the sunny Gold Coast and are currently setting up shop on Taree Street in Burleigh’s industrial hub. The space will act as the main production facility for Aux Fines Bouches’ operations, with patissier Richard to be on display in the open-plan kitchen, which will be encased by a viewing glass for all to see. We’re told to expect a mix of traditional French pastries alongside a selection of Richard’s own creations and adaptations of the classics. Aux Fines Bouches is set to open in mid-November. We’ll have all of the sugar-dipped details for you, plus a peek inside, closer to opening.

4 Pines x Boardriders Coolangatta
Southern folk, there’s a new watering hole headed your way. 4 Pines Brewing Company has partnered with Boardriders to revamp the existing cafe space out the front of its Coolangatta retail store and is set to feature a brand spanking new bar and a more comprehensive food and beverage offering. Expect the full range of 4 Pines core beers plus a selection of their limited-edition Keller Door beer releases alongside wines, cocktails and spirits. Accompanying the drinkables, 4 Pines x Boardriders is also revamping the breakfast and lunch menus and introducing a new dinner offering that will champion classic Aussie pub fare. If you’re partial to the odd morning tipple, we’re told there will be a selection of boozy brekky drinks such as The Brekky Beer (4 Pines Pale Ale, vodka, acai puree, lemon juice) and a Breakfast Martini (dry gin, orange marmalade, Cointreau, lemon juice) – hellooo happiness! 4 Pines x Boardriders – Coolangatta is expected to swing open its doors by month’s end so watch this space.

The Rusty Barrel
Varsity Lakes locals, if you’re tired of venturing out of the hub for your booze and bites, you’ll be pleased to learn that a new whisky and tapas bar is en route. The Rusty Barrel is set to bring a touch of sophistication to Varsity’s bar and dining scene, with specialty whiskies and cocktails at the core. Diners can also expect a food menu of modern bites and ‘high-end burgers’, which we’re sure will have local residents gleaming. The Rusty Barrel takes over the former Cafe Pane e Vino space on Varsity Parade and is set to open by the end of November. We’ll have more details for you next month!
