Pavement Whispers: Light Years shines bright, The Bavarian and Street Fu en route

From whispers of new Asian diners to The Bavarian's next location, The Weekend Edition Gold Coast is always on the search for the latest news on the Gold Coast, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Light Years
After leaving its mark on Byron Bay and Noosa, modern Asian diner and bar Light Years is set to open on the Gold Coast this spring! The duo behind the popular venue, Kim Stephen and Stephen Filipovic, recently announced that the coast’s first Light Years will open in Burleigh in early September. Major works are currently underway to re-fit the former site of The Greek Joint on the Lower Gold Coast Highway (just next to Commune). While Light Years is known for tasty modern-Asian fare, fun cocktails and its eclectic vibe, each venue has its own identity, with the soon-to-open 90-seat Burleigh venue to deliver an entirely new experience for locals, with new food and cocktail menus to be revealed upon opening. Get your chopsticks ready for share-style bites like fried chicken with mee goreng salt and green sriracha, eggplant-katsu bao buns, piping-hot dumplings, vibrant curries, Asian salads, fresh ceviche and more. We’ll give you a peek inside and dish up all of the details for you once the doors are open in September – stay tuned.

The Bavarian
Get set for an influx of steins, schnitzels and pork knuckles – The Bavarian is expanding with another Gold Coast venue announced. Rockpool Dining Group has confirmed the newest The Bavarian venue will be located in The Kitchens at Robina Town Centre, taking over the two ground-level adjoining spaces formerly occupied by Jimmy Grants and Lucky Luciano’s. We’re told the Robina edition of The Bavarian will feature seating for around 340 bratwurst lovers, including alfresco seating for 120. The opening of the mammoth Robina venue will mark The Bavarian’s third Gold Coast location (following Broadbeach and Coomera) and the tenth in Queensland. It’s set to open in late August, so you’ll only have to wait a few more weeks until you can tuck into giant pretzels, loaded schnitzels, crispy pork knuckles and devour all of the German sausages. We’ll give you a peek inside soon!

Street Fu
After unveiling a sleek and moody new look, menu and night vibe last month, Mermaid Beach Asian eatery and bar FuFu will this week launch its newest addition – a hole-in-the-wall takeaway window named Street Fu. While FuFu has shifted to become a more refined restaurant and bar offering, owner Morgan Walsh still wanted to give locals quality Asian ‘fast food’ to take home. Street Fu will have its own menu, featuring moreish Asian street eats like Big Mac Spring Rolls, sticky chicken wings, satay beef stir fry, sweet and sour pork, fried rice and sesame chicken. Plus, Street Fu will also be slinging a delicious menu of burgers stacked with combinations like fried chicken, bearnaise and habanero jam, pork belly with bacon, pineapple jam, lettuce and lime mayo, and a salt-and-pepper calamari burger with wasabi mayo and pickled fennel. Street Fu, located at the rear of FuFu overlooking the carpark, is set to be up and running by this weekend – keep an eye on FuFu’s Instagram for more.
