Farm to plate – soak up the valley vibes at Currumbin’s new-look Pasture & Co

More often than not, we Gold Coast folk are drawn to the sun-soaked allure of beachside dining. That said, there's something equally as satisfying and cup-filling about heading away from the water to spend a day amongst nature. If you're keen to swap rolling sets for rolling out a rug under the shade of an enormous fig tree, disconnecting from the rat race and reconnecting with mother Earth – allow us to divert your attention, if we may, just ten short minutes inland to Currumbin Valley. This is where you will find the new-look Pasture & Co, which has recently opened the doors to a spacious new outpost. The coffee is pouring and the resident kangaroos are ready to greet you – here's everything you need to know ...

Since opening in 2017, Pasture & Co has become the kind of destination venue that people consistently go out of their way to visit, which speaks volumes in today’s convenience-driven society. Previously housed in the old Queenslander at Ground at Currumbin – a mini precinct that sits near the entranceway to the residential community The Ecovillage – the cafe has recently relocated to the old dairy shed just a hop, skip and a jump away from its original home. If you’ve previously visited, you’ll be pleased to know the super relaxed vibe has been retained with casual indoor seating that merges with a spacious outdoor area where you can hang out under the towering fig trees. In line with The Ecovillage’s ethos of reduce, reuse and recycle, the benches have been made from recycled hardwood lovingly crafted by the onsite craftsman Joel. In fact, no new wood was used in the build at all. The end result is charmingly rustic, with pops of greenery and some seriously swoon-worthy Moroccan tiles from Jatana Interiors. As much as we could go on and on about the beautiful aesthetic, it would be remiss not to turn our attention toward the food.

Pasture & Co is the handiwork of Dani Riley, who longtime locals may recognise from her previous venture as the owner and chief cake maker at ieightcake, which sold delicious treats at both Miami Marketta and Freeman’s Organic Farm. The all-day menu at Pasture & Co has been designed to suit all tastes, diets and intolerances, with plenty of dishes free from dairy, nuts and eggs, the produce is also organic where possible. The offering intentionally blurs the lines between what’s breakfast, brunch or lunch, here they are one and the same. One of its signatures, however, is the potato and zucchini rosti on greens with a swathe of beetroot hummus and half an avocado perched on top. The truffle scrambled eggs promise to elevate any meal into an experience to savour and sits alongside classics including a bacon and egg roll and a generously sized bircher muesli topped with a poached pear and seasonal berries. Pasture & Co specialises in producing healthy and sustainable fare that makes you feel good when you eat it. “The way food should taste,” says Dani. Given her pedigree as cake maker, you should also know that the cabinet is brimming with delicious housemade cakes and raw treats on the daily including its specialty gravity-defying lemon meringue. As for the sips, the coffee on pour is the organic blend from Seven Miles and non-coffee folk can enjoy a selection of smoothies, and cold-pressed juices alongside a clutch of classic cocktails, beer and wine. Dani has plans to roll into evening trade but for now, it’s open for snacks and sips until 7:00 pm on a Friday and Saturday.
