Immune-boosting juices and nourishing nosh – say hello to the brand-new Nobbys Shack

The Nobby Beach strip has evolved a lot over the years. One mainstay, however, has been the ever-popular The Shack Superfood Cafe, which always had a steady stream of people in and out slurping freshly made juices and acai bowls. When the long-standing juice bar suddenly closed, people wondered what went wrong. Thankfully, this story is not one of endings, but rather, new beginnings. Say hello to Nobbys Shack, your new old faithful.

The Shack Superfood Cafe was the kind of place where you could grab your juice and linger out the front chatting to familiar faces you bumped into. More than a cafe, it was a community-centric space that brought people together over good, nourishing food, juices and smoothies. When whispers of a new development surfaced, The Shack’s owners Lynda and Adolfo Pimentel decided this kind of community hub had to be protected and they began putting their feelers out for a new location. After a few potential sites fell through at the eleventh hour, they were beginning to wonder what would become of the cafe they had worked so hard to build. Thankfully (for us), the perfect place popped up, and the husband-and-wife dream team got to work creating Nobbys Shack – a new and improved version of The Shack Superfood Cafe people had come to know and love. Completely transforming the former Mount Lebanon Continental Deli (RIP felafel wraps), the new Nobbys Shack is deceptively spacious. From the street, you’ll spy a juice bar running down one side and a row of small table settings down the other. Artwork by Marcus Brightmore adds a splash of colour to the interior, and those who venture through to the back are rewarded with an expansive open-air deck area lined with tables as well as a kid’s play area.

Alongside the new name and new look, Nobbys Shack has dropped an expanded menu that builds on some long-time favourites as well as adding some fresh new additions. The menu is imbued with culinary influences from around the world, with dishes including Thai-style eggs with lemongrass chicken and its own version of an okonomiyaki pancake. Lynda and Adolfo have plans to extend into evening trade, but for now are focusing on nailing the breakfast, brunch and lunch offering. While some cafes have a handful of juices on the menu, Nobbys Shack has an entire page dedicated to immune-boosting juices and bowls that are loaded with superfoods such as acerola, which they import from Brazil, because it contains 30 times more vitamin C than oranges. Lynda and Adolfo dreamed of creating a space where families can relax with a fresh juice or a coffee, have a bite and the kids can play, and that’s exactly what Nobbys Shack is.
