When we were first introduced to Next Door Espresso’s flagship cafe in Tweed Heads, the thriving caffeine pit stop was all about the grab-and-go with the whole experience designed to have you fed, caffeinated and back on the road in the least amount of time possible. These days, it’s quite the opposite with patrons encouraged to linger a little longer. The creekside cafe is the epitome of coastal chic with sleek polished concrete floors, rustic timber tables and crisp-white everything. Striking rattan pendant lights hover overhead and sunlight pours in from the enormous windows that frame the front facade. Outside, the path is lined with timber settings shaded by big, beautiful umbrellas whilst inside, patrons can sink into a delightfully comfortable linen director’s chair.
The menu has also been overhauled and meanders through light bites such as sourdough crumpets slathered with macadamia-and-honeycomb butter, too-pretty-to-eat acai bowls and housemade waffles that are served with almond butter, roast-almond praline, banana and maple. If you’re a sucker for a classic bacon-and-egg roll, you definitely won’t be disappointed with Next Door’s crispy loaded creation and the Old Mate Benny is also a pretty popular option. For those that appreciate a top-notch brew, you will be happy to know that Moonshine Coffee, from Federal near Byron Bay, is being pumped out here on the daily. Non-coffee drinkers are well catered for with Mayde organic tea, iced tea, milkshakes and cold-pressed juices.
