Naked Foods is the brainchild of Brazilian-born Caique Ponzoni. From humble beginnings selling herbs and spices local Sydney markets, Caique expanded his market stall into selling bulk wholefoods before opening the first Naked Foods bricks-and-mortar store in Bondi Junction in 2014. The newly opened space at The Kitchens, which sticks to Caique’s ethos of unprocessed and unpolluted eating, is Naked Foods 11th store in Australia. While the Naked Foods growth has been widespread, Caique sticks to his roots and still operates at weekend markets in Sydney.
So, what’s in store? Here you’ll find all of your wholefood essentials sold in bulk – everything from nuts and seeds to spices, pasta, dried fruits, mueslis, baking ingredients, grains and plenty of (healthy) chocolate and carob-covered sweet delights. You’ll also find liquid gold like olive oil, tahini, honey and syrups available by the glass-jar full. The goodness extends beyond food – there’s also a Beauty Bar with shampoos and soaps available ‘on tap’ so you can fill up on various natural beauty bits. Speaking of liquids on tap, there’s also three flavoured kombucha taps flowing – you can sip it by the cup or fill up bottles to take home. In a move towards sustainability, you won’t find any packaged products here – everything comes in either a brown bag or a glass jar, and if you bring your own packaging, you’ll get a 5 per cent discount … save the planet and some pennies.
