Put it on the tab – Mr Yum is making dining out easy (and safe) with QR-code ordering

If you're a fan of dining in, you've probably noticed that a lot of your favourite eateries have adapted to the new climate using innovate methods. One of these new processes is the use of QR technology, which has now become the norm when checking in before you dine in. Taking the technology to new lengths is Mr Yum, a QR-code system that not only lets you order from your phone, but start a digital tab too. Here's to never having to worry about that awkward split bill moment after you've finished up your last cocktail.

Launched in 2019 as an app that allowed hungry folk to ogle a visual menu of restaurant dishes before making an order, Mr Yum has, like many involved in the hospitality industry, pivoted to stay ahead of the game during the COVID era. Now an online ordering system, Mr Yum uses QR technology (the handy code you snap when checking in at your local hang), to allow customers to not only register for contact tracing but also order and pay directly from their phone. The system helps eateries to become as contactless as possible, allowing customers to avoid the use of communal menus, eftpos machines and long lines – because ew, germs.

In an even more exciting step, Mr Yum’s has announced the launch of a virtual tab, a new capability that enables customers to set up a digital tab at participating restaurants, bars and pubs. Customers can start a tab for themselves via the Mr Yum QR-code menu, placing multiple orders throughout their visit and simply close out the bill when they leave. If customers are dining in a group, the generous person who started the tab can share the unique QR code and website link, enabling their mates to order from their own devices and charge it back to the original card attached to the tab (like we said, generous). We suggest not starting one of these after a few drinks – it could be dangerous. To learn more about Mr Yum, head here.
