Malt House brings fancy pub food and all of the beer to The Kitchens

We've all got a soft spot for pub food. Nothing beats a good pot pie, a schnitzel, or even a hearty Sunday roast with a pint. If you're salivating at the thought, then let us introduce you to the Gold Coast's newest European-style gastro pub, Malt House, which is putting a fancy spin on classic pub fare as we know it. Oh, and yes there's beer. Lots of beer.

Earlier this week, the doors to Malt House quietly swung open, marking the latest addition to the dining portfolio at The Kitchens at Robina Town Centre. With it comes a wave of delicious pub food (done well) and more than 40 beers, including ten taps pumping the amber goodness via an overhead copper pipe from the visible keg room. Now, it’s common when picturing a pub to imagine a dimly lit hub filled with dark timber and the scent of beer. Malt House is the complete opposite. Surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows and exposed roofing, the 140-seat eatery and bar is bright and modern, with polished concrete floors, lots of brass fixtures, a glorious timber bar and dome pendant lights. The row of red-brick ‘houses’ inside the pub is the real eye-catcher, acting as a unique architectural feature that houses the kitchen, keg room and private dining room. That’s right – a private dining room in a pub (it totally works).

Let’s cut straight to the chase – this ‘fancy’ pub food we speak of is delivered through an extensive menu that is designed to suit all tastes. There are plenty of smaller plates to share and a series of colourful salads, before moving into the heartier meals like the braised lamb-shank pie, the panko and parmesan crumbed pork schnitzel, and the beer-battered snapper with chips. You’ll find a series of mouth-watering steaks from the grill served with refined sides like smashed new potatoes and sauteed greens. The organic rotisserie chickens are a head-turner, served either as a half or whole chook, with a selection of delicious sides (make sure one is the Malt House specialty slaw). If it’s quality nosh and an endless selection of beers that you’re after, then you’d best get yourself acquainted with The Kitchens’ newest foodie hang.
