Sweet treats, sudsy sips and smoky eats – where to taste test some of Logan’s most lip-smacking fare

Sometimes when you've lived in a city for so long, it can feel like you've wined and dined at every establishment, had your morning cuppa at every corner cafe or had one too many late-night HSP from that trusty kebab shop. If you want to broaden your horizons both from a culinarily and geographical perspective, then we think you should hop in the car and drive to a city not so far away – Logan. Brimming with mouth-watering fare from almost every country you can think of, this epicurean melting pot is worth diving into. Here are some top-notch spots for when you plan on embarking on a self-curated Logan food trail …

Wet your whistle with primo pints at this brewery
Beers enthusiasts can down sudsy sips at Underwood’s much-loved Monkey Tree Brewing, a microbrewery that specialises in small batches and good vibes. Each batch – whether its craft beer, cider or non-boozy concoctions – is brewed onsite using traditional recipes. Golden lagers, fruity pale ales, sweet and dry apple ciders, refreshing ginger beers and coffee-flavoured stouts can all be found on the menu. On weekends, live music fills the venue so you can groove the day away while enjoying an icy-cold frothy.

Take home some tantalising treats from this sweet-tooth’s paradise
Seeking some dessert to sink your teeth into? Look no further than Sooo Sweet, a Lebanese bakery found in Slacks Creek. This dessert-lovers dream destination serves up a decadent selection of traditional Lebanese and Mediterranean pastries and delicacies – think baklava (many have claimed it to be the best they have tasted in their entire life), tiramisu cups, almond shortbreads and coconut lady fingers. Cakes, chocolates, sugar-coated almonds and nougat are also available to nab too.

Stock up on fresh produce at this jam-packed market
Gather the Sunday morning gang, as we’re headed to the markets! Get a first-hand taste of Logan’s cultural diversity at the Global Food Market, a culinary melting pot that sells seasonal produce you’d only expect to find overseas including dragonfruit, jackfruit, custard apples, lychees, rambutan, mangosteen and much more. While you’re there, treat yourself to a sizzling selection of international street-food like Pa Thong Ko (Thai doughnuts), beef ball soup, coconut pancakes and much more.

Cure your brunch craving at this ‘grammable cafe
If it’s brunch bites and quality coffee that you’re hankering for, Extraction Artisan Café in Slacks Creek is well worth stopping off at. It’s here where you can indulge in delicious dishes like The Serbian Eggs (chevapi with chilli tomatoes, grilled eggplant, house-made labneh and two poached eggs) and Frenchie Toast with clotted-coconut cream, sour-stone fruit compote, almond caramel shards. Plus, the stylish cafe and roaster is housed in a warehouse featuring high ceilings, concrete flooring, eye-catching art pieces and a collection of vintage furniture – so it’s the perfect place to capture your next ‘gram shot.

Enter a real-life chocolate factory
Trust us when we say you’ll get as excited as a kid in a candy shop when you visit Poppy’s Chocolate in Beenleigh. Your eyes will be greeted with the sight of melted chocolate swirling around a chocolate machine, while your tastebuds will be tantalised with sweet samples upon entry. You can even watch the chocolatiers at work creating delicacies like passionfruit and white-chocolate bark, caramel chocolate rocky road with strawberries and almonds, and salted-caramel hearts. Hop in before the long weekend for some tasty Easter goodies with bunnies, eggs and many more sweet treats just waiting to be added to your basket.

Follow your nose to the smokehouse specialising in Aus-Tex barbecue
If juicy beef brisket, pulled pork and sticky barbecue baby back ribs smoked for hours over a blend of Australian hickory and iron bark wood sounds like your vision of culinary heaven, then grab a stack of napkins and make tracks to Sugar Creek Smokehouse. Housed in two repurposed shipping containers, Sugar Creek Smokehouse focuses on ‘Aus-Tex’ – Texan barbecue with an Aussie twist. Locally sourced meats are smoked fresh daily and served up alongside salivation-inducing sides like filthy fries, smoked mac ‘n’ cheese and spicy slaw. Our mouths are watering already.
