We love coffees made by our favourite local baristas, but unfortunately there are times, both when travelling and at home, when we've had to reach for (dare we say it) instant coffee. Sure, there are plenty of fancy alternative-brewing devices out there, but if you're not keen to pack your glass Chemex in your travel bag or take your Aeropress with you to the hairdresser, then we've found the solution – drip coffee bags from Burleigh Heads-based outfit The Laughing Pug Coffee Co.

If you’ve ever travelled to Japan, you might be familiar with single-use drip-coffee bags – they are designed to sit atop any coffee cup and are filled with ground coffee. You simply pour boiling water into the top of the open bag, and you’ve got yourself a tasty drip coffee. Genius, right? Well, not only is The Laughing Pug bringing a version of this life-changing product to our shores, they have gone one step further and used specialty coffee from Papua New Guinea and made them biodegradable.

The Laughing Pug came to life at the hands of local duo Dylan Rickit and Elise Mann, who came first came across the concept of the drip-coffee bags when travelling overseas. After finding themselves craving good coffee (as in, top-notch specialty coffee) when they woke up on their travels, they set out to create their own version of the bags that used rich and smooth-tasting premium coffee that was still environmentally friendly despite being single use. Gee wizz, these guys are ticking all of the boxes … including some boxes we didn’t even know we had. Get your paws on The Laughing Pug drip-coffee bags online.
