Real talk – cupcakes are truly underrated. Sure, fancy hybrids like cruffins and cronuts are in the spotlight for good reason, but cupcakes really are the OG baked treat. A true crowd pleaser, adored and lovingly devoured by sugar fiends of all ages. After being inundated with cupcake orders through her at-home baking business, local cupcake queen Kylie Hides recently decided to take the plunge and open her first bricks-and-mortar shopfront, which you’ll find tucked in along Nerang’s Lavelle Street. Of a morning, the pink-hued grab-and-go treat dispensary is brimming with a colour-popping arrangement of freshly baked cupcakes in a series of different flavours, each one hand decorated by Kylie, ready and waiting to be devoured in five seconds flat.
If you’re lucky, you’ll nab one of the too-pretty-to-eat unicorn cupcakes, topped with a generous swirl of magical multi-coloured buttercream and a glitter-sprinkled edible horn. With decadent flavours like Merlo-infused mocha, lemon with elderflower buttercream, vegan chocolate and peanut butter, caramel popcorn, pineapple, apple pie, musk, the lolly-topped Candy Lane and more to choose from, deciding on just one is near impossible – so do yourself a solid and splurge on a mixed pack. Alongside the cupcakes, there’s takeaway Merlo coffee and ‘gram-worthy crazy shakes (you’ll need both hands free to carry this bad boy) decorated with buttercream, lollies, glitter and a whole cupcake on top. Hello, sugar high!
Kylie’s Cupcakes is now open! Well, that’s a lie – this week the team is taking a breather (so don’t rock up this weekend) but they’ll be back as normal from next week.
