While we absolutely cannot hit Mariah Carey's high notes, we sure do love a good karaoke session here at The Weekend Edition. If you're one to belt out a Whitney classic or you can nail the intro 'Lose Yourself' better than Eminem himself (um, we should be friends) then perhaps it's time to gather the crew for a night on the mics. We thought we'd give you a gentle nudge with a handy list of top karaoke spots on the Gold Coast.

Tune-Up Bar & Karaoke, Surfers Paradise: A set of stairs next to Elsewhere on Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise will take you up to this hidden karaoke gem. The unassuming interior will have you feeling like you’re at a house party – in a good way. If you’re feeling confident, then live your best life on the open-mic stage, or you can hire a private room and really let loose. The bar will keep you hydrated on the basics as you get acquainted with the catalogue of bangers.

G-Clef, Surfers Paradise: There’s no doubting that the Japanese are the kings of karaoke. G-Clef is a Japanese restaurant and bar with karaoke rooms attached. Start your night with ramen and katsu curry, then kick on with sake and singing. If you get a little peckish mid-session, you can order snacks or meals to your private room – perfect if you need some sustenance before you attempt ‘Kiss From a Rose’.

J-Pops, Southport: For the ultimate Japanese karaoke experience, get your lyric-slinging self to Chinatown’s longstanding J-Pops. Open from 1:00 pm every single day, J-Pops offers a number of different-sized rooms and, you’ll be pleased to know, it’s BYO. Yes, a little splash of rosé will certainly make your voice sound much more in tune. Keep your eyes peeled for regular J-Pops specials where you can sing your heart out for hours on end.

E-Star Karaoke, Southport: Attached to Season Buffet, E-Star Karaoke is a next-level karaoke offering with a range of extravagant and very eccentric rooms in various sizes – there’s everything from under-the-sea-themed rooms to opulent gold-trimmed spaces. You can also treat yo’self to the palatial VIP room and party on like a high roller while you and your pals harmonise to the Backstreet Boys.

Holey Moley Golf Club, Surfers Paradise: Mini golf, a bar and karaoke – yep, that’s a triple threat right there. After you’ve blazed through nine holes, get yourself into one of Holey Moley’s private karaoke rooms for a night on the tunes. Settle your nerves at the Caddyshack Bar first – a Long Island Iced Tee will well and truly get you in the mood.
