Here’s the deal. Il Tavolo (Italian for ‘the table’) is held every Thursday night from 5:00–8:00 pm at the 100 Mile Table premises in the Byron Bay Industrial Estate. The night is simple and features three dishes – antipasti, pasta and dolce. It’s BYO wine and the fine folk at Sun Bistro bottle shop up the street know what’s on the menu each week and will help you choose a matching drop. It’s walk-ins only – but don’t fret, the team have a crackling fire pit outside so you can warm up with a wine and make a start on your antipasti before your seat(s) on the communal table are ready.
Every Thursday chef David Lovett crafts a new menu, starting with antipasti like fresh-baked focaccia with zucchini alla scapece and fresh ricotta. As for the mains, there are two pasta dishes on offer every week – one will always be gluten free (like a gnocchi or polenta) and one vegetarian. We’re talking gnocchi with slow-cooked broccoli, pecorino and mint, maltagliati with ragu and parmigiano, and ricotta ravioli with butter and sage. As for the sweet finishers? Expect anything and everything to hit the table, from an apple, blueberry and polenta crumble to oranges drowned in caramel. It’s $45 for all three courses, $35 without dessert.
