The round-up: the best spots for high tea on the Gold Coast

From dainty sandwiches to glorious fluffy scones, savoury delights and petite sweets, high tea really is a divine way to graze, sip and catch up with friends. No longer is high tea just a go-to baby shower celebration, it's a delicious, fun and unique daytime dining experience – and you need to put it back on your radar. From traditional sweet-and-savoury spreads to boundary-pushing towers of culinary magic, we've found the best spots for high tea on the Gold Coast.

Palette Restaurant, Surfers Paradise: If you fancy your high tea with a side of showstopping art, Palette Restaurant at HOTA is the perfect perch. Every Sunday, the restaurant invites you to experience the art of culinary delights with a lavish high tea spread complete with mulled-wine fruit scones, native berry jam and double cream alongside Davidson plum danishes, salivation-worthy sandwiches and sweet treats. Enjoy with a Tavalon Tea ($60 per person), or step it up a notch with a glass of Veuve Clicquot ($75 per person).

Palazzo Versace, Main Beach: For a truly sophisticated outing, Palazzo Versace’s series of high tea experiences will have you covered. Head straight to the top tier with the Royal Couture High Tea, which is served progressively alongside Ruinart champagne. Relax and graze on savouries like roast beef and celeriac remoulade finger sandwiches and sweets like elderflower cheesecake and pumpkin-spiced latte panna cotta, before indulging in the Ars Italica Oscietra caviar, served with blinis and condiments. You’ll even go home with your own handcrafted chocolate … which, let’s be honest, probably won’t make it home.

The Village Heritage B&B, Mudgeeraba: Surround yourself in the ambiance of a stunning 112-year-old Queenslander and take high tea in the Heritage dining room or on the balcony with majestic views to the hinterland. The treats and made onsite and The Village’s offering is a little different in that it’s served across two courses. The first course is all savoury, think hot minis and bite-sized sandwiches. Then, it’s time for the sweets – mini cakes and slices, fluffy chocolate mousse, pannacotta and, of course, freshly made scones with jam and cream. Pair this with bottomless tea and a barista coffee served and you have yourself the fundamentals for a fantastic afternoon. The high tea is available from Thursday to Sunday from 11.00 until 1.00 pm and from 1:30–3:00 pm. Bookings are essential.
