The Star Gold Coast unveils its newest dining destination Harvest Buffet

In July this year, the coast bid adieu to long-standing buffet icon Food Fantasy at The Star after three decades of delighting hungry diners. Droves of loyal locals clamoured for one final bottomless feast before extensive works began to bring its larger and more-refined successor, Harvest Buffet, to life. Wait no more  – Harvest Buffet will officially open to the public today, Thursday December 13.

The Star Gold Coast enlisted world-renowned architecture and interior design firm Luchetti Krelle to create the Harvest Buffet space, which shares the same name and similar design cues as its sibling venue at The Star Sydney. While the character of Food Fantasy has been retained, the premises have been completely reimagined. Floor-to-ceiling windows that run the length of the restaurant have opened up the space to invite natural light and welcome dreamy views over the lush pool area, while a redesigned floor plan and layout has seen its capacity increase by around 100 seats to now accomodate 500 diners. The major transformation also saw the addition of an open bar area, a 60-seat alfresco dining terrace and an exclusive 44-seat private dining room for more intimate gatherings.

As for the buffet itself – it’s a wonderland of food. The open-plan kitchens and live food stations put the chefs’ skills in the spotlight, making for an interactive (and rather theatrical) dining experience. There’s a carvery station with succulent meats, Chinese barbecue and Asian-inspired stations (curated by The Star’s head of Asian cuisine Song Yao Su), an Italian section with rustic dishes and hand-made pizza and pasta offerings, glorious charcuterie spreads and cheeses, vibrant salads, as well as an eye-catching arrangement of fresh local hot and cold seafood. Got the kids in tow? There’s also a specially designed height-appropriate children’s buffet brimming with simplified eats and child-friendly favourites. Now, we know it’s difficult to ‘leave room’ at an indulgent buffet experience like this, but take our advice and save some space for the dessert station – it’s truly decadent, with an endless series of handmade cakes, slices, ice-creams, hot desserts and more. Though the very Willy Wonka-esque 2-m chocolate fountain is truly the icing on the cake.

Harvest Buffet is now open! Head to our Stumble Guide for opening hours and contact details.
