It might seem unusual, but since opening the doors to Gluten Free 4 U in Broadbeach last weekend, some of Tanya’s customers have stood at the counter with tears rolling down their cheeks. Not because of the salivation-worthy array of freshly baked goods that line the display cabinet or Tanya’s infectiously sunny disposition, it’s because absolutely everything within the store is gluten and nut-free. In fact, Gluten Free 4 U’s range caters to the gamut of dietary variations including – but not limited to – vegan, fructose friendly, dairy friendly, egg-free, soy-free and yeast-free. Her customers are so overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement because unless you’ve experienced the challenges of allergies or strict dietary requirements first-hand, you can never really appreciate the significance, Tanya says. Incredibly, prior to her own diagnosis, Tanya was a trained chocolatier. After many years battling a mystery illness, painstakingly removing and reintroducing various foods, she finally concluded that the thing she was reacting to, was almost everything – from everyday things like bread through to unexpected sources such as supermarket ice-cream. Her goal now is to help normalise the condition by providing a traditional bakery concept where everything just happens to be gluten- and nut-free.
Gluten Free 4 U offers an extensive selection of freshly baked breads and savouries through to cookies, specialty cakes, desserts and treats fresh from the oven. Nestled underneath the Bel Air on Broadbeach building, the quaint bakery is convenient for those looking to grab-and-go as well as those who prefer to linger a little longer. If time is on your side, take a seat at one of the Parisian-style settings with plush navy velvet chairs and treat yourself to a delightful Devonshire tea (two freshly baked scones with jam and cream alongside a pot of Madura Tea), or settle in for a complete gluten-free high tea experience (the high tea must be pre-booked in advance). In need of a little pick-me-up? Gluten Free 4 U proudly serves bean ground & drunk’s organic and fairtrade coffee.
