Coffee, croissants and Euro vibes – GG’s Eatery & Bar heralds a new era for an iconic Broadbeach site

Last month the Gold Coast bid adieu to popular health-food cafe Grocer & Grind and its adjoining superfood bar NXT Door – but there's a silver lining. After just a few short weeks, the iconic Broadbeach space has been completely transformed into a European-style cafe and dining space called GG's Eatery & Bar. Think loaded croissants and coffee in the sunshine by day, and crisp pizzas and negronis by night.

The details
GG’s has come to life at the hands of local hospitality trio Maria Tsirling, Christelle Langlet and Roslind Williams, who teamed up with renowned restaurateur Patrik Gennari (The Loose Moose, Roosevelt LoungeGlass Dining & Lounge Bar and Koi) to create the European-style day-and-night eatery and bar. While the name is an ode to the predecessor of the iconic T.E Peters Drive corner site, the venue is unrecognisable from its former state, sporting a refined and eclectic 1920s-style fit-out. During the day, the French doors open out onto rows of Italian-style bistro seating along the footpath, while at night GG’s transforms into a cosy candle-lit cavern filled with the tantalising aroma of woodfired pizza.

The food
By putting a European twist on classic breakfast, brunch and lunch fare, GG’s has produced a daytime menu that caters for both the health conscious and those looking for a moreish bite – it’s well and truly all about balance. The GG’s Porridge is a healthy winter warmer with caramelised banana, sweet dukkah and coconut yoghurt, or keep it fresh with the poached-prawn toast with celery, apple and avocado atop fresh-baked sourdough. Choose from one of the Nourishing Bowls for a vibrant munch, or indulge your sweet tooth with the French brioche toast with poached pear, rhubarb and a dollop of labneh. Direct your eyes to the part of the menu that reads Benny Range and prepare to drool – choose from ‘benny’ combinations like bacon, avocado and hollandaise, fried chicken with cider slaw and chipotle hollandaise, or hot smoked salmon with goats cheese, capers, chilli and artichoke, which all come served in a toasted croissant. GG’s night trade runs from Wednesday through to Sunday, which sees a well-curated cocktail list roll out alongside a respectable collection of wine and beer. A concise pizza menu is on offer after dark, featuring authentic light-and-crispy bases topped with combinations like fresh pear, gorgonzola, rocket, pine nut, parmesan and truffle honey – there’s also a banoffee pizza drizzled with butterscotch sauce if you’re that way inclined.

The rest
You can thank renowned Gold Coast design firm Space Cubed for GG’s eye-catching fit-out – the same team responsible for spaces like The Gennari Group’s The Loose Moose and Roosevelt, as well as Mamasan Kitchen & Bar, Old Tom and The Collective to name a few. Exposed brick walls unearth vintage murals by the talented CRT Designs, with dots of live greenery, dark-timber book shelves and glistening gold-trimmed furnishings combining to create a unique and worldly space.
