Mexican haven Frida Sol unveils its expansion with a new next-level watering hole

Late last year, Palm Beach welcomed a spicy new resident in Mexican eatery Frida Sol. As the younger, sassy sibling to Mermaid Beach hotspot Bonita Bonita, the southern version quickly garnered a following of taco lovers and tequila sippers. Though, while you were all downstairs munching away on chimichangas, Frida Sol's magical new tequila-filled watering hole was coming to life upstairs.

The arrival of Frida Sol in December saw the former 8th Ave Terrace space transformed into a dreamy Tulum-inspired eatery – and since then our stomachs and Instagram feeds have been most content. Though, we knew that archway atop the striking white staircase would eventually lead to something. That ‘something’ is a new 40-plus seat elevated bar nestled atop the bustling Frida Sol eatery, that’ll have you thinking (and wishing) that you’re on the coast of Mexico.

Frida Sol and Bonita Bonita owner Ryan Renwick teamed up with FuFu and Poké Poké owner (and original founder of Bonita Bonita) Morgan Walsh to bring the next phase of the Frida Sol concept to life. Under her fit-out guise Growling Tiger Designs, Morgan was responsible for the design of the downstairs restaurant, before she was let loose on a separate site upstairs to create Frida Sol’s own tequila-sipping haven. By day it’s bright, breezy and brimming with greenery and texture, and by night it’s a moody cave-like den complete with candles and a glistening rock-wall of running water. The second-storey ocean-view bar, which is also available for event hire, is equipped with a solid series of tequilas and sprits, joined by a selection of cocktails (hello, chilli margarita), tap beers and wine. You can settle in for a carafe of sangria (or three) and a couple of tacos from this weekend.
