Sit and smell the roses at Parkwood’s new florist cafe, Flower Studio

Flowers have a unique ability to communicate when words seem inadequate. They can simultaneously brighten someone's day, tell someone you're thinking of them, you fancy them, and even provide comfort in times of grief. Flowers make the world infinitely more beautiful. One flower studio in Parkwood has taken the age-old expression to sit and smell the roses literally by introducing a brand-new cafe nook and leafy alfresco area so you can do just that.

Not every daughter could work with their mother, and vice-versa. For Belinda and Bethany Cook, doing something other than floristry wasn’t ever an option. Belinda has been in the business of blooms for more than 30 years, a passion that rubbed off on her daughter Bethany during endless road trips visiting flower markets on weekends. The mother-daughter team has curated a dreamy flower-filled space on Olsen Avenue in Parkwood, just a hop skip and a jump from the Gold Coast University Hospital. The florist side of the business specialises in freshly crafted arrangements of all shapes and sizes, including beautiful bouquets for weddings and events, but it’s the shelves that are guaranteed to have you lingering a little longer. Lined with a sublime selection of gifts and niceties, from aromantic candles to embroidery kits, hand-made chocolates and locally made honey, Flower Studio is the kind of place you can find a beautiful and unique gift for everyone in your life (including yourself).

When Belinda and Bethany envisioned their dream space, they wanted a shop where you can have a browse but also sit and appreciate the beautiful blooms. This was the inspiration behind the introduction of the coffee nook, which serves coffee from Newcastle’s Red Parrot Coffee, non-alcoholic cocktails from Monday Distillery and tea from T2 and The Chai Stand. Belinda and Bethany have big plans for the little space including high teas and workshops including paper-making tutorials, clay dates and flower classes.
