It's been a red-hot minute since the caffeine-loving populace first gazed upon Espresso Moto in Palm Beach – six long years in fact (time flies when you're having fun!). Rather than rest on their laurels with one thriving caffeine dispensary, owner Jordan Stubbs alongside manager Rachael Cole and chef Leevai Smythe have hit the road to spread the love a little further north.

Espresso Moto Mermaid dishes up a hearty dose of good vibes, unpretentious food and excellent coffee – the same winning trifecta you’ve come to know and love from its sister space in Palmy. The menu has replicated some of the much-loved dishes including the eternal favourite bacon and egg roll, which is loaded with strips of crispy, streaky Canadian bacon (yum) smothered with lashings of creamy aioli and house-made relish atop a toasted ciabatta slipper, and the You all know me A.E.P (Moto’s take on the avo smash) with avocado, edamame and pea smash heaped on sourdough with pumpkin hummus, spinach, beets and sinus-clearing wasabi peas. Meat-free mates will love the roasted field mushrooms on sourdough and those with a soft spot for a classic eggs Benny definitely won’t be disappointed as the hollandaise is made fresh in-house daily. Come midday, diners can flip the page and wrap their mitts around a couple of cheeky burgers including The Dirty Bird (buttermilk chicken, herb slaw, buffalo sauce on a ciabatta slipper) and a rotating burg-of-the-day. If you’re in need of some health, there’s a superfood salad that has your name written all over it. Just be sure to leave room for a bowl of the venue’s piping-hot cinnamon doughnuts, which are made fresh to order. As for the drinkables, Espresso Moto Mermaid brews Allpress’ A.R.T Espresso Roast, which for the coffee connoisseurs out there is big, fat and chocolatey (yes, that’s the official tasting notes) and non-coffee drinkers can sip house-made cold-pressed juice, smoothies and Jilly Tea. The venue also happens to be fully licensed with Stone & Wood beer on-tap alongside a local guest beer.Occupying the prized corner site in the Markeri Food precinct, Espresso Moto Mermaid neighbours Yuen’s Fresh Market, Lucky Bao and Urban Woodfired Pizza – so it’s in excellent company. With ample parking right out the front, the cafe is designed to get people fed, caffeinated and back on the road in a jiffy. There is, however, plenty of seating for those prefer to linger a little longer. The former Pizza Capers has been completely gutted and rebuilt to reflect the same aesthetic at its southern sister with recycled corrugated iron, timber accents and large pop-out windows that offer a glimpse at the baristas at work. The crew have plans to fire up Moto Nights, which we’re told will include traditional fish and chips, fish tacos and ceviche so keep your peepers peeled in the not-too-distant future for that. Suffice to say we’re excited!
