The round-up: bark up the right tree at the Gold Coast’s best dog-friendly cafes and bars

It’s a Saturday morning and you walk out the door to go and enjoy a delicious breakfast and coffee, when you look back and see those puppy dog eyes. It's totally heartbreaking, right? Here’s the thing, we reckon dogs shouldn't have to miss on the fun just because they're a little on the hairy side. So, if after a long week at work you just want to spend your weekend sipping lattes with your pooch, then this is for you. We’ve rounded up the Gold Coast’s best dog-friendly cafes that will welcome your four-legged furry friends.

Palm Beach Ave, Palm Beach: The dog days are never over at Palm Beach Ave, where you can bring man’s best friend along for brunch, lunch, dinner or cocktails. Fur babies have their own menu to peruse, including bowls loaded with baked salmon and barramundi, steamed rice and fresh peas, and doggie drinks including the ‘L’Barkery Pawroni’ and ‘Pawsecco’, which is made using beef broth.

Refinery Coffee, Currumbin: If you’re a southern Gold Coast local with a penchant for top-notch caffeination stations, it’s likely that you will have already come across Refinery Coffee in Currumbin. The best part? Furry friends are more than welcome, with water bowls available for pups and a perfect grassy patch next to the outdoor seating.

Sparrow Coffee Co., Nobby Beach: While both Gold Coast Sparrow Coffee Co. outposts are designed to grab-and-go, your canine companion is more than welcome to wait with you at the much-loved outpost. The Nobbys Beach locale even has the tastiest Wags ‘N’ Co. doggo treats for pups to chew on while the humans grab a brew, with 100% of profits supporting Animal Welfare League Queensland!

The Galleon 4223, Currumbin: Every suburb has its hidden local gems and The Galleon 4223 is undoubtedly one of Currumbin’s. Plus, they have free doggie biscuits for every visitor! Cute.

Hudson and Rosie’s Table, Highland Park: Bring your pawfect pal along to this much-loved eatery, whether it’s for morning munchies or more substantial bites like the melt-in-your-mouth brisket burger.

Paddock Bakery, Miami: This leafy local legend has plenty of space for pups to spread out under the shade of the towering trees that surround the charming old weatherboard bakery.

Robina Pavilion, Robina: Everyone is welcome at Robina Pav (as it’s affectionately known) – even dogs! Enjoy a cold one with your crew and your best four-legged pal, too.

Elk Espresso, Broadbeach: Elk is one of the Gold Coast’s most iconic cafes, and it’s also a welcomer of pupperino patrons. There’s plenty of outdoor seating in the sunshine and a killer vibe to boot.

Palm Springs, Burleigh Heads: Perch up in the sunshine at this Los Angeles-inspired cafe bringing sun-soaked Cali-vibes and tasty morning eats (and drinks) to the beachside strip. Better yet, sip a marg with your pawtner in crime (if my boss sees this pun, I am definitely getting fired).

Granddad Jacks, Miami: Granddad Jack’s craft distillery and tasting room in Miami is known for its superb spirits – gin, whisky and vodka all share the shelf here – but did you know that Granddad Jack’s is dog-friendly too? Yep, you can bring your pooch along while you enjoy a bespoke G&T. This is livin’ Barry.

Ze Pickle, Burleigh Heads: Found in the hub of the action in Burleigh’s James Street precinct, Ze Pickle is a crowd favourite that welcomes everyone – even dogs! Pull up a chair in the breezy outdoor area with your pooch in tow and feast on mind-blowing burgers and frosty beers.

BSKT Cafe, Mermaid Beach:  This seaside gem has pup-friendly tables roadside and in the cafe’s ocean alley area at the back. There are plenty of water bowls and a doggie menu of organic bikkies and puppycinos sprinkled in cookie crumble – did someone say spoilt!?

Lost Palms Brewing Co., Miami: Always accepting of four-legged drinking buddies is Miami’s pink-hued brew hub, Lost Palms. Burgers, beers, and your BFF (best furry friend) – what more could you ask for?

Two Yolks, Burleigh Heads: Brekkie burgers and your fur baby? A match made in heaven if you ask us. Woofers are welcome at this laid-back Burleigh Heads gem.

Scott’s Luncheonette and Bar, Palm Beach: Indulge in some top-notch tipples, sensational sandwiches and really excellent coffee – all with your pupperino in tow. There’s plenty of outdoor seating in the sunshine too.

Black Hops Brewing, Burleigh Heads: Black Hops has turned into a local hub for brew lovers to knock back a tipple or two. What good would a community hangout be if dogs weren’t allowed? Thankfully the Black Hops crew are more than accommodating for pooches, so bring your furry friend along next time you need to top up your growler.

Harajuku Gyoza, Broadbeach: The Harajuku Gyoza Beer Stadium, located in Broadbeach beneath The Oasis Shopping centre, is Australia’s first Japanese microbrewery. It’s also a welcomer of pets and happily allows patrons to sink brews and munch on gyoza with their pups in tow. Kanpai to that!

Cafe Catalina, Southport: Adjoined to the Southport pool overlooking the Broadwater, you and your dog can hang out on the lawn area at Catalina at any time of day. The popular outdoor grassed area is complete with beanbags, umbrellas and timber tables so it’s the perfect spot for coffee or cocktails in the sun (go for an espresso martini if you can’t decide between the two).

Blackboard, Varsity Lakes: Always accepting of four-legged friends is Blackboard in Varsity Lakes. With a shaded outside seating area, there’s plenty of room for a comfortable doggy day out. Also, Blackboard’s Instagram page is a treasure trove of adorable pooch pics in its Dogs of Blackboard hilight – well worth a snoop.

Commune, Burleigh Heads: This laid-back locale has always been a sweet spot for brunch hunters and coffee cravers, but we can’t forget the furrier members of our family. Pups are welcome to join while you snack and sip!

Zi Espresso, Southport: This popular Southport caffeine hub loves the pups. The team here serves puppycinos with doggie biscuit on the side and have filtered water readily available for the furry friends.

Quade & Co, Miami: Nab a spot outside at this Miami caffeine hub, and you and your pooch will be met with open arms, top-notch coffee and bottomless stainless steel bowls of water.

Double Barrel Kitchen, Mermaid Waters: This neighbourhood hang in the backstreets of Mermaid Beach is the go-to for coffee, eats and daytime vibes. Both you and your pup will be most content with caffeine, snacks and fresh-baked doggie biscuits. Just don’t get those biscuits confused with your own.

Paradox Coffee Roasters, Surfers Paradise: Located in the bustling The 4217 precinct, Paradox Coffee Roasters’ adjoining outdoor balcony area is pet-friendly. The coffee here is less about churn-and-burn and more about sitting and savouring, so you’ll be happy to know you can enjoy the Paradox experience with your pooch. The lovely crew will also provide doggie water and they’re known to do the odd puppycino on occasion.

Bumbles Cafe, Budds Beach: The much-loved Bumbles is located right on the pristine Budds Beach, so you can relax with your pooch at your side. The dogs are sorted with water and shade, so you can soak up the million-dollar views while you sip your flat white.

Common Ground, Burleigh: Your pooch can bask in the sunshine while you devour delights like whipped ricotta and avocado on sourdough or freshly baked treats. This is a popular spot for both humans and four-legged friends, and there’s plenty of doggie water to go around.

Nans Coffee, Broadbeach: If the cheeky-looking dog on the sign (which happens to be Pablo, Nans Coffee’s owner’s Labrador) wasn’t a giveaway, Nan’s Coffee is “dog encouraged”. The Broadbeach spot offers up New York-style cookies, salivation-inducing sangas and Paradox brews – oh, and puppycinos for your dog!

Tarte Bakery & Cafe, Burleigh Heads: Tarte Bakery & Cafe is a worldly wonderland of rustic baked goods, handmade sweet treats, mouth-watering brunch bites and specialty coffee. And bonus –  it’s dog friendly! It’s corner spot on West Street is the perfect spot to park with your pupper while you brunch.

Social Brew, Burleigh Heads: Banger brunch bites are the name of the game at Social Brew in Burleigh Heads, and you can take your doggo along for the ride! Pair your acai bowl or avo smash with a puppycino for your canine companion, who is welcome no matter their size.

Daymaker Espresso, Miami: If you’re on the lookout for the Gold Coast’s cutest dogs, you’re more than likely to find them (and perhaps a cute owner too!) at Daymaker Espresso in Miami. Pooches can lap up dog-friendly drinks and pats are pretty much guaranteed.

Custard Canteen, Tallebudgera: With its location so close to Tallebudgera Offleash Dog Beach, it’s a given that Custard Canteen is pup-approved. Croissants and cookies are the star here, and its shady outdoor setting is the prime locale for a pit stop after a swim with your hairy pal.

Bam Bam Bakehouse, Mermaid Beach: Arguably Mermaid Beach’s most popular cafe (and one of the busiest on the coast), Bam Bam Bakehouse isn’t just for the two-legged among us. Puppy love is guaranteed at Bam Bam and you’ll be greeted with lots of pats on arrival.

Daark Espresso, Chirn Park: Located in the great little pocket of Chirn Park, drop by for a coffee or a brunch feed with your furry best friend at Daark Espresso. Your pupper can lick up a tasty sip while you get your caffeine hit.

Always remember your doggie bags when you’re out and about (no, not the delicious take-home doggie bag – the other kind).
