Tugun’s Craft House brings its bounty of bevs and bites north to Nobby Beach

Since opening its doors in August 2018, Craft House in Tugun has been delighting diners with its unexpected and ever-changing roster of craft beer on the taps. Fast-forward a few years, a change of ownership and a global pandemic and the southern haunt is still thriving – a testament to the fact it's got the fundamentals down pat – good beer, good vibes and good food. Not ones to sit idly by, owners Dee Weisner and Wayne Hagan decided to venture north and replicate the formula for Mermaid Beach locals. Frothy fiends, say hello to Craft House Bar and Restaurant Nobby's.

Despite having only owned the Tugun establishment for a few months, Dee and Wayne decided to go all-in and open a second venue in the space formerly occupied by Fire Cue and Nobby’s Rock (although long-time locals will always remember it as The Cavern). The new Craft House Bar and Restaurant is nestled in between Basil Thai and Nightcap and boasts a similar aesthetic to its southern sister with feature pendant lights, quirky styling and nook seating alongside some high-bar tables that sprawl out onto the footpath. Interestingly, the space also includes a secret upstairs area, which can be booked for private functions and used as overflow when the bar downstairs is at capacity (thanks, COVID). Between the two levels, Craft House Bar and Restaurant Nobby’s has capacity for approximately 65 seated patrons.

Craft House Nobby’s will be dishing up a tasty selection of bar bites ranging from sticky wings, beef sliders and crispy-chicken tenders alongside entrees of snapper ceviche, prawn skewers and salt-and-pepper tofu. For more substantial hungers, there’s a chicken parmigiana, crispy-skin salmon and char-grilled scotch fillet with rosemary potatoes. When it comes to the beers, well, suffice to say you’re spoilt for choice with a range of Australian brews including Ballistic Beer Co, Young Henrys, Balter, Lost Palms Brewing Co and Pickled Pig Brewery sitting pretty alongside an exciting selection of American-craft beers, which will change regularly. Dee and Wayne hope to recreate the same all-inclusive vibe of Tugun, where families can feel comfortable sitting alongside 18th birthday parties and retirees who fancy a cheeky nightcap. There are also plans to introduce a regular Drag Bingo night as well as live comedy and trivia, so keep your peepers peeled.
