Buckle up, bargain hunters – Costco Gold Coast opens this week

If you're the kind of person who walks into Aldi for a couple of ingredients for dinner and walks out with a tent, a trumpet and a bicycle pump, go ahead and get excited because there's another cult shopping experience heading our way and it opens this week. That's right, Costco Gold Coast officially opens its doors on June 22 at 8:00 am. Here's everything shoppers can expect ...

With the cost of living skyrocketing, the opening of Costco Gold Coast couldn’t have come at a better time. The store, which will be the chain’s third in Queensland and 854th worldwide, boasts an incredible 14346-sqm of floor area. It’s crammed with thousands of brand-name products across categories including groceries, confectionery, appliances, automotive supplies, toys, hardware, sporting goods, jewellery, cameras, books, apparel, beauty products, furniture and office supplies – and that’s just the start. The Coomera location will also feature a variety of specialty departments including a bakery, fresh meat and produce, a deli, an optical department, a hearing-aid centre, a fuel station and tyre centre, and even a food court for when those pesky pangs strike mid-shop. Among the opening bargains is a 4.5-kg Toblerone, a coffin and an enormous 93-inch teddy bear. Those who have some cash to splash may be interested in a $99,999 diamond ring.

For those who are new to the Costco shopping experience, think of it like this – if Aldi and IKEA had a baby, and that baby was nearly the size of three football fields and filled to the brim with everything you could possibly want or need (even things you didn’t know you needed but definitely do), but bigger. Much, much bigger. Instead of one 500-ml bottle of cleaning liquid, it’s 6.5 litres, and who doesn’t need a five-seater home theatre in their life? There’s just one tiny catch, to shop at Costco you need to be a member, with an annual Costco membership $65 for businesses and individuals and $130 for Executive Membership.

There will be plenty of opening-week specials on offer, so if you’re keen to shop make sure you sign up for a Costco membership here.
