Clean, green and organic – it's a hard ethos to stick by when delicious baked goods like muffins and flaky croissants are always staring at us from inside the glass cabinet at cafes. If you're a foodie that (tries to) keep things healthy but also can't say no to pancakes and doughnuts, then Corganics in Mermaid Beach could be your sweet saviour.


They say when one door closes, another one opens. So, whilst we bid adieu to meatball eatery Ball Boy, we’re delighted to see a new organic cafe in its place. Corganics is the latest venture from local hospitality identity Andrew McElhone, who also recently took over the longstanding Mermaid Grocer, which occupies the corner site just one shop up from the newly opened Corganics. With a totally green and organic ethos, the new daytime health hang features a fresh and colourful breakfast and lunch menu, alongside a swag of on-the-go snacks and take-home meals. Corganics also doubles as an organic grocer, stocking all the essentials from milk and eggs to meat, cheeses, fruit and vegetables.

The menu has been created to suit a range of tastes and diets, so if you don’t do gluten, dairy or animals but still want tasty food, then you’re in luck. You can tuck into morning eats like buckwheat pancakes with coconut yoghurt and cacao nut butter, chia pots with whipped banana, and ‘buddha bowls’ with roasted pumpkin, broccoli, steamed kale, poached egg, sauteed mushrooms and a creamy chilli-turmeric dressing. Come midday you’ll find hearty meals like the Moroccan-style chicken tagine with a herbed-rice pilaf, a chickpea curry with ginger rice and a hearty burger with either a beetroot and quinoa patty or a juicy organic beef patty. Everything on the menu is served in eco-friendly containers made from either vegetable gum or bamboo, so you can sit and stay a while or get your meal to go. If you don’t have time to hang, then there’s a cabinet full of grab-and-go deliciousness, from bottled smoothies to salad bowls, muesli, fruit salads and loads of treats – don’t leave without trying the guilt-free pumpkin doughnuts. As for the all-important coffee, there’s Happy Farmer Organics pouring – which uses beans from Nepal that are washed in melted Himalayan snow (just so you know). The coffees are all served in eco-friendly cups that are printed with colourful designs from local artists … sometimes it’s the little details that stand out the most.
