Settle in for sips, snacks and dessert cocktails at new Broadbeach arrival Coda Bar and Dining

Right now, more than ever, we're all appreciating how special it is to dine out with pals – sipping cocktails, enjoying good wine and sharing plate after plate of delicious eats. This week, Broadbeach welcomed a fun new dining spot where you can do just that. Allow us to introduce Coda Bar and Dining – an exciting second venue from the team from neighbouring Italian carb haven Don't Gnocc It.

For the past two years, restaurateur and chef Tim Huijs has been delighting locals with handmade gnocchi and authentic pizzas at Don’t Gnocc It, which is nestled along Surf Parade beneath The Phoenician. Though, in a quest to fill a gap for an intimate dining space and lounge bar in the precinct, he took over the vacant premises right next door, and earlier this month unveiled Coda Bar and Dining. While it’s a polar opposite to its sibling gnoccheria, the same ethos echoes across both – that good food is best shared. The 5o-seater opens for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Sunday, armed with a contemporary European-style menu of smaller plates and larger dishes that traverse land and sea. The seating sprawls indoor and out, or you can nab a spot up at the bar, which is well equipped with a selection of wine, tap beers and a collection of cocktails.

The Botanist gin-cured salmon with avocado mousse and horseradish creme fraiche is a vibrant way to kick off the proceedings, or for another ocean hit there’s the Sicilian king prawns swimming in a chilli, basil and butter sauce. Fried green olives with ‘nduja and arrabiata sauce join other moresh bites like serrano ham and manchego croquettes, black-truffle mac ‘n’ cheese, and grilled saganaki with honey, roasted walnuts and pomegranate molasses. Though, if you’re after something a little more substantial, share your way though half a grilled Spanish-style chicken with kipflers, the barbecued pork cutlet with spiced apple sauce and apple slaw, or the Cape Grim sirloin with mascarpone puree, crumbed oyster mushrooms and jus. If you’re a sweets seeker, finish with a zingy limoncello tart topped with sticky marshmallow, amaretti crumb, French vanilla ice-cream and lemon balm – or treat yourself to a drinkable dessert. Tiramisu espresso martini topped with a boozy sponge finger, anyone?
