Broadbeach scores a sophisticated new hetero-friendly LGBTQIA+ sip spot, Chameleon Lounge Bar

There's been a pretty noticeable absence on the Gold Coast bar scene for the last little while, but Dan Duncan is here to change that. The qualified zookeeper and veterinary nurse has traded khakis and scrubs for nightlife, opening a hetero-friendly LGBTQIA+ lounge bar in Broadbeach. Perched along Surf Parade, the refined new watering hole is a safe space for everyone in the community to enjoy a drink and a show. Here's everything you need to know about this colourful newcomer ...

Chameleon Lounge Bar has completely transformed the former Molly Malone’s Broadbeach into a palatial tipple temple. Forget outdated stereotypes of dark and dingy nightclubs with scantily clad servers, Chameleon is the antithesis of that. Envisioned as a sophisticated sip spot complete with brushed gold coffee (cocktail) tables and plush velvet seating in gemstone pink, emerald green and navy blue, Chameleon Lounge Bar is, at its core, about fun. There’s a range of different areas depending on your mood – those who fancy a casual bite and a brew can sink into a couch outside, while those keen to catch all of the action on-stage can mingle in the main dining area. Towards the back, there is a pool table and a foosball table for a little bit of friendly rivalry. Taking pride of place at the entrance is a stage that hosts a constantly rotating line-up of entertainment including live music, drag trivia, open stage night (which is kind of like an open mic night but for drag performers) and a production show affectionately called Dream Queens, starring Venus Amore, Justine Kace and Poppy Maurie.

Behind the bar, Chameleon shakes and stirs a satisfying selection of sips ranging from classics (cosmos and French martinis) through to a couple of signature creations including the Chameleon Espresso Martini with vodka, Kahlua, Licor 43, Frangelico and Baileys. The colour of the ambient lights (and the jellyfish at the front) correspond with an hourly drink special and if it happens to be your birthday, you can score yourself a special birthday shot (happy birthday to you!). Not to be outdone by the libations, Chameleon Lounge Bar has recruited a head chef with over 20 years of experience to curate a menu that meanders from share-style tapas with an Asian fusion twist through to sourdough pizza, cheese boards, antipasto and oysters. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or it’s a regular Tuesday, Chameleon Lounge Bar is a vibe and we’re here for it.
