Buoy Oh Buoy brings Blackboard brews, tasty bites and nautical vibes to the north

We all know there has been a lot of foodie hype coming from the Gold Coast's southern end. So, we're understandably pretty pumped to shift the spotlight to the city's north with a rad new daytime gem called Buoy Oh Buoy. The nautical-themed caffeine-fuelled space recently opened its doors in the heart of Paradise Point, injecting a cool new vibe into the relaxed waterside hub.

Kelly Kohler, a Paradise Point local, set out to create Buoy Oh Buoy in a quest to give the northern end a taste of what the southern Gold Coast has so much of. So, with the fellas from Blackboard Coffee on board with the beans, Kelly and her family transformed the former pool shop on Falkinder Avenue to create one of the coolest new coffee joints around. The impressive fit-out puts a unique spin on traditional nautical styling – think bright white, cane wares and light timber-topped tables, contrasted by brass pendant lights, navy cladded walls and blue patterned tiles. If (like us) you’re a sucker for fine detail, then the cute branding from the ‘treat yo’self’ sticker on the food cabinet, to the ‘hey sugar’ stickers on the sugar tubs, will surely make you smile. It’s the little things, right?

Alongside the Blackboard coffee, you’ll find a cabinet brimming with savoury bites, sweet treats, and a colourful series of salads. You should know that these aren’t your usual run-of-the-mill salads that make you want a burger instead … these are salads that you’ll actually want to eat, which, let’s be honest, is hard to nail on the daily. There’s also bacon and egg rolls, simple yet tasty toasted sandwich combinations like chicken and kasoundi (Indian chutney), and tuna with aubergine and chilli. You’ll find plenty of sweet baked treats, including delightful tarts and slices, as well as deliciously flaky almond croissants (oh buoy, that’s the way to our heart). While the colourful food cabinet spoils you for choice, a more substantial menu is expected to roll out over the coming month.

If you’re into great coffee and nautical vibes, head over to our Stumble Guide for Buoy Oh Buoy’s location and opening hours.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
