Off the leash – BrewDog’s Brisbane-brewed beers go national

It’s a hard unit of measurement to gauge, but if we had to record the levels of excitement that surrounded the opening of BrewDog’s Murrarie HQ in November last year, the readings would be off the charts. The arrival of the Scottish-born brewing giant sent reverberations across the country’s craft-beer community, but only from this week has Australia at large been able to sample the flavours of BrewDog’s Brisbane-brewed bevvies. The hop heads at BrewDog have just launched an Australian e-commerce site, meaning that folks outside of Brisbane can snag the brewery’s Aussie range in the comfort of their own home.

Although BrewDog is a big name in the world of ales, stouts, lagers and sours, to get a taste of the brews concocted at its sizeable Murrarie hub, one had to make tracks to get it off tap from its on-site barroom DogTap. In good news for our coastal and interstate brethren, BrewDog has just launched its Australian e-commerce site – an online store where folks can order beer made within BrewDog Brisbane’s 25-hectolitre brewing system. The launch comes as BrewDog announces its intention to transition into a carbon-negative operation, introducing a raft of sustainability focused green-infrastructure initiatives across the country. These measures include the implementation of solar panels at its brewery, taproom and restaurant, donating spent grain to cattle farms in Queensland, the creation of a sustainable drive-thru that will function as a beer collection point and a closed-loop hub for zero-waste packaging such as growlers, mini-kegs and returnable bottles, and a partnership with Carbon Neutral’s Yarra Yarra biodiversity corridor to planting native species of trees and shrubs to restore habitat loss and degradation and to offset all excess C02 emissions.

So, what is included in this wave of Brisbane-brewed beauties? We’re glad you asked – the range includes many of BrewDog’s classic drops, headlined by the signature Punk IPA, the beverage that jumpstarted BrewDog’s meteoric rise in popularity. The golden brew boasts a base of new-world hops with caramel and tropical fruit accents. Joining the Punk IPA is the Hazy Jane (a flavoursome New Englang IPA featuring oats and wheat and the bite of pineapple, mango and stone-fruit), Elvis Juice (a grapefruit-infused IPA with a caramel malt base) and the BrewDog Pale Ale (a hop-heavy tribute to American pale ales, with pine and citrus aromas that fill the nose). Each option can be purchased in packs of four or as part of a themed box (an Entry Pack, an Aussie Mixed Pack and an IPA Pack). Head to BrewDog’s new e-commerce site to stock up for the coming backyard barbecue season.
