Get ’em while they’re hot – here’s where to find the Gold Coast’s best doughnuts

Few things can match the sheer joy and satisfaction that you get when you bite into a sweet, freshly baked doughnut. Whether you're into custard-filled, vanilla glazed or you're a sucker for the simple cinnamon-dusted variety, you're in luck – because the Gold Coast's doughnut game is strong! National Doughnut Day falls on Friday June 2, so to honour this momentous occasion, we've put together a list of some top spots to get your doughnut fix across the city. Enjoy, you bunch of sugar bandits!

D Point Ten Varsity Lakes, Hope Island and Pacific Fair
If you’re yet to get acquainted with D Point Ten, please rectify this situation immediately. Here it’s well and truly about the doughnuts. Oh, and a doughnut’s best friend – coffee. The cabinets are brimming all day with handmade rounds of goodness, and there’s always plenty of diet-busting doughnut varieties to choose from – Nutella, Oreo, Gaytime, Biscoff, Apple Fritter and a simple vanilla glaze, to name a few.

Fuel Bakehouse Currumbin and Cabarita
Not only are the Fuel locations a haven for sweet, soul-warming pastries, they are also responsible for supplying a bunch of your favourite local cafes – so chances are you’ve come across Fuel’s doughnuts before (if not, meet your new obsession). All day, every day you’ll find Fuel’s doughnuts there to satisfy your cravings – they are lovingly hand crafted and injected with fillings like custard, salted caramel and passionfruit.

Paddock Bakery, Miami
The line-up of semi-sourdough doughnuts gracing the cabinet on any given day at Paddock are mighty hard to pass up. It’s like they are staring at you, and you just can’t say no. Choose from creations like Biscoff cheesecake, the iconic Nutella bot, raspberry jam, creme brulee and salted caramel with a pretzel-cookie crumb.

The Bread Social, Tweed Heads, Isle of Capri and Byron Bay
For those a little further south, The Bread Social’s Tweed outpost is your go-to for some of the finest doughnuts in town. Here you’ll find the likes of plain cinnamon (the OG), jam-filled and seasonal-inspired doughnuts. You’ll also find The Bread Social in Isle of Capri and Byron Bay.

Mark Daniel’s Patisserie, Robina
While the rows of colourful macarons and delicate petite cakes are first to catch your eye when you stroll past Mark Daniel’s, let it be known the doughnuts that grace the cabinet here are well worth getting your mitts on. You can snag flavours like Nutella, lemon meringue or glazed M&M’s. Grab a Blackboard brew while you’re at it and you’ve got yourself the perfect pre-shopping pick-me-up.

Doughnut Time, Burleigh Heads
When it’s time to treat yo’self, this Burleigh Heads doughnut dispensary will well and truly satiate all of your sweet desires. It’s stocked with all of your favourites like the simple-yet-glorious glazed doughnut The O.G, the M&M-topped Slim Shady, the Nutella-injected Love at First Bite, Pump up the Jam, and the Caramel Baskin topped with Cadbury Caramilk squares.

The Pastry Emporium, Bundall
This is the ultimate haven for sweeth tooths, and if you’ve got a thing for doughnuts – you’re in the right spot. Sitting pretty in the cabinet alongside rows of eye-popping pastries and petit gateau is a fine collection of doughnuts, baked fresh in house daily. Our pick? The custard-filled variety – it’s the perfect accompaniment to a morning flat white.

The Doughnut Boss, Broadbeach
A friendly warning, folks – if you walk past The Doughnut Boss you will not (we repeat, will not) be able to walk away empty handed. Make sure you head in early to witness the cabinet brimming with simple favourites and over-the-top creations, which are made fresh daily. Think hot fresh doughnuts filled with jam, salted caramel and Nutella, as well as creme brulee, chocolate brownie and an Italian cannoli doughnut. The ultimate cheat-day treat spot.

Kirra Beach Bakery, Kirra
If you’re after some late-night doughnuts, look no further than Kirra Beach Bakery, which is open 11:00 pm until 5:00 pm (yes, you read that right). The beloved bakery’s jam and Nutella-infused doughnuts will put a pep in your step.

G-Free Donuts, various locations
Coeliacs (and everyone else), rejoice! There is actually a gluten-free doughnut that tastes great. You’ll find these bad boys hot and fresh at the farmers markets at Bundall (HOTA) and Palm Beach every weekend. They are light and fluffy on the inside, and slightly crisp on the outside – enjoy them piping hot while you’re strolling through the markets.

Krispy Kreme, various locations
Well look, given its cult-like popularity, we certainly can’t leave Krispy Kreme off the list. The original grazed doughnut here is simply iconic, though if you’re look to take your sweet tooth on a little adventure, keep an eye out for its one-off releases – they’re absolutely scrumptious!

Honourable mentionTarte Bakery & Cafe in Burleigh Heads continues to attract hoards of hungry locals who are keen to get their mitts on the bakery’s signature cruellers, a deep-fried pastry very similar to a doughnut but a tiny bit fancier. Be warned – they’ve been known to sell out so best get in quick sticks.
