Byron Bay welcomes Bay Grocer – a fresh new venture from the 100 Mile Table founders

If Byron Bay is like a second home for you (us too) then you'd be familiar with the longstanding Green Garage – the bustling grocer perched on the roundabout on the outskirts of town where Bangalow Road begins. Earlier this month, the popular grab-and-go dispensary reopened as Bay Grocer, with its new name, vibe and exciting direction courtesy of Sarah Swan and Jeremy Burn, the founders of cafe and catering icon 100 Mile Table.

The space that once housed Green Garage has been given a significant overhaul to reveal the duo’s latest venture, which features a full-scale grocery brimming with produce from Northern Rivers farmers, as well as a seven-day-a-week cafe operation that utilises herbs and salad greens from an on-site garden. The grocer features a well-curated selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan food products and essential pantry items, with the shelves and fridges filled with everything from daily loaves from The Bread Social to portioned meat from local producers, deli items and cured meats, local and international cheeses, pasta, farm-fresh eggs and more.

Armed with Allpress Coffee, the Bay Grocer cafe serves an ever-changing breakfast and lunch offering. Of a morning, you’ll find convenient eats like house-made granola, bacon and egg pies, and breakfast milk buns filled with sausage, roasted peppers and hot sauce. A rotating selection of salads (think cabbage, kale and salted-peanut salads with miso-ranch dressing) and sandwiches (the likes of prosciutto and manchego on sourdough ficelle) will be available at lunch time. You’ll also find a series of house-baked sweets, from Japanese cheesecakes to lamingtons and eclairs, gracing the cabinet daily. There’s also smoothies and juices to go, while complete grab-and-go take-home meals will be rolled out in the near future.
