There’s something deeply satisfying about sipping your coffee against a backdrop of rolling waves. Perhaps it’s the salt lingering in the air that makes everything taste that little bit better or perhaps it’s more a reflection of your mood – because it’s impossible to be in a bad mood at the beach, that’s just a fact. If you’re keen to test this theory, pull up a stool at one of the high bars that line the open-air deck and prepare to fall in love with the new Barefoot Currumbin, which is ideally perched on Pacific Parade. If you’re a regular at Barefoot’s other cafes around the coast, the menu will look fairly familiar with all of your morning faves present and accounted for including the ever-popular crispy potato hash served with gooey poached eggs, bacon and bathed in house-made mustard hollandaise. The bowls will get your day off to an excellent start with the zucchini-and-halloumi fritters emerging as a crowd-favourite, but come midday the menu flips to offer a selection of three burgers (cajun fish, cheese or buttermilk-fried chicken), fish and chips, and a delightfully fresh salmon bowl, which is loaded with house-cured salmon, grains and edamame, pickled-cucumber relish, herb slaw and topped with lashings of Togarshi mayo.
Caffeine-loving folk will be pleased to know the easy-drinking brews are from Gabriel Coffee, but there’s also a selection of cold-pressed juices, protein smoothies and kombucha to sip pre-10:00 am. Afterwards, Barefoot Currumbin’s license activates, allowing you to blow the froth off a brew from Black Hops, Balter or Stone & Wood. There’s also a succinct selection of sparkling, rosé, white and red wine as well as a handful of cocktails. If you are feeling a little fragile from the night before, the bloody Mary will help make you human again and, if you’re really eager, there’s a margarita and a spiked espresso (otherwise known as an espresso martini) to bring you back from the brink.
If you like the sound of margs before midday, skip merrily over to our Stumble Guide for opening times.
