The round-up: the best all-day breakfast on the Gold Coast

While it’s all well and good to have ambitions of getting up super early, hitting the gym and enjoying your post-workout green smoothie before the majority of people even stir from their slumber, the reality is often somewhat different and you actually emerge sometime around midday in search of a strong coffee and bacon. If you find yourself in the latter situation, here's a handy list of places that do a seriously delicious all-day breakfast on the Gold Coast.

Double Barrel Kitchen, Mermaid Waters
When we asked our pals on Instagram where to get the best all-day breakfast on the Gold Coast, the results were pretty clear – Double Barrel Kitchen in Mermaid Waters is a firm favourite for a lot of people. The menu changes with the seasons so there will always be something new and delicious to devour. A couple of highlights from the autumn 2022 menu (which rolls out on Saturday February 26) is the cauliflower Nasi rice, chicken-and-bacon hash and Nutella-and-berry protein pancakes.

Elk Espresso, Broadbeach
Elk is totally down with the ‘breakfast for lunch’ vibe. In fact, there’s an entire section on the menu dedicated to it. Satisfy your sweet tooth with Elk’s French toast, which is almost too pretty to eat. Prefer savoury? The ultra-crisp potato hash with avocado, rocket, free-range poached eggs and a generous drizzle of hollandaise is a damn fine time. Partial to a sip? Elk is licensed, so you can (and should) order an espresso martini on the side.

Cubby Bakehouse, Chinderah
Located right on the Tweed River, Cubby specialises in traditional French baguettes, sourdough loaves and crusty banh mi rolls, which are all baked fresh on site and feature heavily across much of the venue’s mouth-watering all-day menu. The bacon and egg banh mi is a beautiful hybrid and features a fried egg, crisp bacon, Swiss cheese, rocket, barbecue and chipotle sauce on a Cubby banh mi roll. Delish.

Daymaker Espresso, Miami
This laidback Miami locale slings top-notch all-day eats and quality coffee seven days a week. The entire menu is pretty appetising but it’s damn near impossible to go past the breaky tacos, which features scrambled eggs, crispy halloumi, avocado, charred-corn salsa mix and Sriracha Kewpie mayo wrapped in two lightly toasted soft tacos. It’s a day-maker, see what we did there?

All day breakfast Gold Coast | Palm Springs

Palm Springs, Burleigh Heads
Bringing sun-soaked Cali-vibes and tasty eats to Burleigh is Palm Springs, which also dishes up a tasty all-day breakfast. Think haloumi-and-egg burgers made on deliciously soft milk buns and Cali Breakfast Burritos stuffed with chorizo, egg, cheddar, avocado salsa, black beans and pickled jalapeno – we have only one word (and it isn’t even really a word, more of a sound), ooft. Oh, and if you fancy a cheeky midday marg, they have those too.

Blackboard Varsity, Varsity Lakes
The bustling all-day crowd on weekends is an indication of Blackboard Coffee’s unwavering popularity. If you’re into breakfast for lunch, seasonal dishes like the truffle scrambled eggs or the miso-roasted wild mushrooms will sort you out in the most delicious way possible.

The Paddock Bakery, Miami
There’s a really excellent reason Paddock Bakery is always busy. Here you’ll find an all-day menu that meanders from a grown-up version of dippy eggs (yum) through to ridiculously decadent strawberry doughnut French toast, which is topped with fresh strawberries, gooey marshmallow gel, dehydrated strawberry shards, pretzel cookie crumble and vanilla-bean ice-cream. If you really want to commit to the food coma, add streaky bacon. On the flip side, if you fancy a coconut chicken curry pie for breakfast – you do you.

Hot Shott, Main Beach
This northern noshery dishes up a delightful all-day breakfast and lunch menu that’s brimming with toothsome morsels such as eggs benny on gourmet sourdough, a trio of brekky sliders, cinnamon scroll buttermilk pancakes and the venue’s signature Smokin’ Avo, which is described by the locals as the best smashed avo in town. Feel like a burger at breakfast time? No worries – choose from a selection of hefty bites served all day long.

All day breakfast Gold Coast | Bam Bam Bakehouse

Bam Bam Bakehouse, Mermaid Beach
You’re not a bonafide local until you’ve wrapped both hands (yes, it takes two) around the epic Bam Bam Benny – a deliciously crispy croissant loaded with two poached eggs, ham off the bone and lashings of tarragon hollandaise. It’s available all day (along with the entire Bam Bam menu), but be sure to save room for one of the delectable treats from the cabinet.

Daark Espresso, Chirn Park
If you find yourself on the northern Gold Coast, you need to go here. If you’re a local, it’s likely you’re already a fan of Daark Espresso. The Chirn Park institution serves up a killer all-day brekkie, from hot smoked salmon and fetta croquettes to southern fried chicken on waffles.

Crew, Burleigh Heads
Because life is all about balance, Crew’s all-day menu covers all dietaries and hunger levels. From healthy plates such as breakfast bowls through to more indulgent (and downright delicious) options such as fried chicken, as we said, balance. The banh mi is also a crowd fave.

Caffeine Kings, Miami
If you’ve got a hankering for something outside of the usual breakfast options, pull up a stool at Caffeine Kings and tuck into the Brekky Bibimbap (saffron-rice bowl with avocado, pickled carrot and daikon, spinach, grilled-mushroom, nori, fried egg and lashings of zingy bibimbap dressing) or The Waffling Duck (pulled-duck leg, two free-range poached eggs, puffed black rice and gochujang hollandaise on pandan waffles). Not feelin’ quite as adventurous? There are plenty of more traditional morning morsels on offer.

All Day Breakfast Gold Coast | Tarte BakeryTarte Bakery, Burleigh Heads
Whether you’re in the market for a freshly baked benny bagel or you’ve got a hankering for the double-smoked streaky bacon and egg breakfast burrito – you’re in luck. Snag a spot at the bustling Burleigh Heads bakery Tarte for a delicious all-day breakfast and some quality caffeine.

Hymn, Tweed Heads
If it’s been a while since you’ve ventured south, it’s high time you did just to enjoy Hymn’s all-day breakfast offering. Rather than rocking a standard bacon and egg burger, Hymn does it like this – a roti-bread hawker roll with bacon, fried eggs, mum’s secret apple sauce, crispy onions and condensed-milk mayonnaise.

The Hunted Cafe, Bonogin
If you find yourself in and around Bonogin hunting for something delicious, make a pit-stop at The Hunted Cafe. Of a morning, local folk and valley visitors can enjoy breakfast classics like buttermilk waffles with bacon, ice-cream and lashings of maple syrup, and sriracha-infused scrambled eggs atop sourdough, with coffees by Burleigh’s Social Espresso on pour.

BSKT, Nobby Beach
If you’ve never experienced the Navajo native breakfast with fried free-range eggs, beans, avocado and tomato salsa on native flatbread, do yourself a favour. It’s just one of the all-day dishes at BKST. Keen for some health? Try the BSKT Healthy Benny topped with your choice of ‘kalenaise’ or turmeric bearnaise or stop by the Oakberry Acai kiosk for a bowl to-go.

Custard Canteen, Tallebudgera
A few sandy footsteps from the sparkling water of Tallebudgera Creek, it’s hard to beat a Custard Portuguese tart at any time of the day. Feelin’ famished? The Butter Boy Benny (two poached eggs, toasted Bam Bam croissant, hollandaise and crisp bacon) will put an abrupt end to pesky pangs, and if you subscribe to the belief that it’s never too early for fried chicken, the karaage chicken burger is a guaranteed good time.

Commune, Burleigh Heads
There’s a reason Commune is a favourite of Burleigh locals and holiday-makers alike – it’s just so dang good, every time. Go with the coriander corn fritters and house-made chilli jam (hot tip – add a poached egg) or go for one of the coast’s best eggs Benny served on a slab of fresh and crusty sourdough.

Paradox Coffee Roasters, Surfers Paradise
Paradox is another venue that offers the ultimate freedom of all-day dining, so if you suddenly have a craving for a good ol’ fashioned Fully Loaded breakfast with all of the trimmings (we love you, housemade hash browns) at midday, that’s not a problem at all. The same school of thought applies to having a free-range fried-chicken burger at 10:00 am. No judgement.

Refinery Coffee, Currumbin
Chasing coffee, breakfast, brunch and/or lunch? Refinery Coffee has all of the bases covered. There’s an all-day food menu, Blackboard Coffee on pour, and it’s also licensed with beer, wine and ciders on offer. Tuck into a helping of nasi goreng or the Asian-style beef benny, you won’t regret it! Just leave room for fresh-baked cookies and treats from the cabinet.
