This October, internationally renowned installation Gaia will make its East Coast debut as it is suspended from HOTA’s Outdoor Stage in all its glory. With the lights of Surfers as the backdrop, this major artwork presents a spectacular view of our planet normally only seen by astronauts.

Gaia is the personification of the Earth in Greek Mythology. Created by UK multidisciplinary artist Luke Jerram, Gaia measures seven metres in diameter and combines 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface with specially made surround sound composition by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones.

A companion installation to Luke’s work Museum of the Moon, Gaia has toured extensively across the world and will be at HOTA from October 1–14, 2020.

You’ll be able to stop by during the day and see the sculpture floating atop a makeshift lake, basking in the sunlight. Or visit in the early evening as the Earth glows, rest on the lawn under the stars and take a moment for stillness and reflection.

The installation will be accompanied by a program of events including classical music, contemporary dance, talks from thought-leaders, and more – be the first to find out and get access to tickets by signing up to our e-news here.
