Free live music, after-work tipples and all of your festive entertainment needs – add these unmissable December events to your calendar

And just like that, December is upon us. As your weekends fill up with festive gatherings and you frantically finish up work for the year while trying to dodge (or embrace) Mariah's Christmas jingle, it's important you still find some time for yourself. If you've got a few spare dates left on the calendar for December, or if you're ready to emerge from the chrysalis of your couch and embrace life as the ultimate social butterfly, The Star Gold Coast has a bounty of events to keep you busy well into the new year. From tacos on the lawn and scenic sundowners to weeknight delights and your Christmas and New Year's Eve plans, The Star has your December sorted. Let's dive in, shall we?

First things first – let’s eat. With the festive season comes the unspoken agreement that it’s okay to knock off a little early and have a drink or two with your mates. If your boss isn’t sold on the idea, we recommend bringing them along to any post-work events at Garden Kitchen & Bar, Cucina Vivo and Isoletto Pool Club. Taco fiends will rejoice at Garden Kitchen & Bar’s Tacos On The Lawn event, which offers a fiesta of flavour with $5 taquitos, a fresh new cantina menu, margaritas and live music every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-9:00 pm. Between December 13 and January 31 you can gather the hombres for a mid-week feast of crispy-fried veggie taquitos, fried chicken sandos, a slew of taco flavours and loaded garden fries. Swap the beaches of Baja for the balmy streets of Italy and say “Cin Cin” to summer spritzers and Mediterranean bites at Cucina Vivo’s pop-up Lobby Bar. Running from Wednesday until Sunday from 4:00 pm until late, Cucina Vivo welcomes hungry folk to chow down on buffalo mozzarella, antipasti, marinated olives, arancini, a range of wood-fired pizza and a cheeky spritz or two to wash it all down. Cin Cin at Cucina Vivo will run from December 1 until January 15. If you’d prefer to sip on your spritz at the Gold Coast’s newest and most luxurious sky-high bar, then you’re in luck because Isoletto Pool Club is granting exclusive access to the public with Sundowners between December 15 and January 26. Open daily from 5:00 pm until late, spritz enthusiasts can head up to level six and make the most of the Gold Coast’s sun-kissed lifestyle, with a range of bespoke cocktails and delectable bites to be enjoyed overlooking the pool. Entry to all three of these delicious December events is free – simply walk in and get ready to enjoy.

Entertainment-wise, The Star’s Atrium bar has you covered every day of the week with its Seven Nights of Delights. Atrium Bar will be open daily from 6:00 pm between December 19 and January 15, serving free entry and plenty of delicious drinks to fuel you throughout the week. Beat the Monday blues with the ultimate throwback night where you can put on your disco pants and dance to the best from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Tuesday will see Rockaoke take over Atrium. Think karaoke on steroids, as a full band with drums, bass and guitar support you as lead singer. Simply pick a song with the MC, jump on stage and sing as you would on any other karaoke night as the band plays in support. On Wednesdays, Atrium Bar unleashes the laughs with Comedy Club, presented by Based Comedy and Byron Bay Brewery. Each week a new lineup of local and national comedians will hit the stage, offering plenty of laughs while you chow down on a delicious array of delights from the comfort of your bean bag or booth. As the week begins to close, the party only ramps up at Atrium with live entertainment and a disco ball waiting for you every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Plan your party nights and view the full entertainment schedule online.

Watch the sun go down and enjoy live music under the stars with killer (free!) entertainment on The Lawn. On Friday December 16 and 23, The Lawn at Garden Kitchen & Bar will play host to international soul sensation Lisa Hunt and her signature sultry sound. December 30 will also see Sex & Chocolate bless your senses with their smooth harmonies and sharp dance moves. If you’re looking for the ultimate Sunday sesh location, The Lawn has you covered again with plenty of drinks, snacks and free live music from local Gold Coast four-piece Mckenzie Band and Brisbane’s band of professionals, Soul Collective. Headlining UK DJ Example will help close out The Lawn’s unbeatable bevy of free talent by playing a set on New Year’s Eve. With a few platinum albums, chart-topping singles, headline festival slots and a lengthy catalogue under his belt, it’s safe to say you’ll be in good hands as you welcome in 2023.

Speaking of welcoming 2023, The Star is dishing up a smorgasbord of things to see, do and devour this New Year’s Eve. From moonlit picnics on the lawn to fine feasts and sophisticated soirees, almost all of The Star’s world-class dining and party destinations have an event happening. We’ve already gone to the effort of outlining the very best on offer, so check out the details and book your tickets before they sell out! What about Christmas? We hear you ask. It is no surprise that The Star has also got your festive feast in the bag, with tickets remaining to Uncle Su’s oriental Christmas feast, Harvest Buffet’s all-you-can-eat seafood buffet, and pre-prepared luxe Christmas hampers for those that prefer to celebrate at home. Are you obsessed with all things Christmas? Get into the spirit early by attending Love Actually In Concert on Thursday December 15. Kicking off at 7:30 pm, prepare to watch Hugh, Colin, Emma, Liam and Keira on the big screen as a live orchestra performs the evocative hit soundtrack live. Last, but certainly not least, on The Star’s December lineup of entertainment is Dancing Queen – the world’s premier live ABBA tribute. Back by popular demand, Dancing Queen: A Tribute to ABBA is a full-scale concert production featuring more than two hours of fun, energetic musical performances with a live backing band, replica costumes, theatrical lighting and all the dancing an ABBA fan can handle. Two shows are happening on Friday December 30 and Saturday December 31. Hand over the money, money, money and say gimme, gimme, gimme to a ticket online today.

Still got some gaps in your calendar? Beyond this entertainment schedule, The Star has all of your favourite sporting games live and loud on the big screens, as well as a range of December specials across its signature restaurants. Enjoy!
