Gin tours to avocado degustations – Tweed Artisan Food Weekend is back with three days of delicious events

The produce, people and places that make the Tweed region so spectacular will burst into the spotlight when the Tweed Artisan Food Festival returns from March 13–15. The 2020 iteration of the annual festival will feature a weekend of exclusive experiences with some of the region's biggest food and produce stars.

The Tweed Artisan Food Weekend will kick off its three-day program with a gin-spiked Tweed River Cruise from Cubby Bakehouse to Husk Distillers on Friday March 13. You’ll meet at Cubby in Chinderah for a lunch treat and coffee, before jumping aboard the boat and cruising the river to learn a little about history and geography of the area while soaking up the stunning views. Then, you’ll stop at the Husk Distillers estate for a tour and tasting session, before finishing with a complimentary gin and tonic while enjoying tunes on the lawn at the newly launched Husk at Dusk Acoustic Sessions.

Also on Friday March 13 is an exclusive Backlot Beer Tour at Stone & Wood’s Murwillumbah brewery (not usually open to the public), featuring a behind-the-scenes look at the production facility and tastings of their award-winning beers in the staff bar. On Saturday March 14, you can explore Fingal Headland with Indigenous Cultural Leader, Uncle Franc, on the Discover Fingal Walkabout Tour – you’ll stroll and learn about native bushfoods and their nutritional and medicinal benefits, before you tuck into a local bush-inspired lunch at Sheoak Shack. There’s also the Meet the Locals Lunch at Potager on Saturday March 14, where you’ll enjoy a four-course lunch with local foodie stars like Kieran from Cape Byron Distillery, Deb from Cheeses Loves You, James from Australian Bay Lobster and Matt from Birds Bay Oysters. There’s also an avocado degustation, aptly named Death by Avocado, held at Tropical Fruit World on Sunday March 15 in celebration of the avocado harvest season. Though, that’s just a taste of what’s on offer – for the full program, head to the Tweed Artisan Food Weekend website. Bookings to each event are essential!
