Our top picks for your taste buds at this year’s Scenic Rim Eat Local Week

Nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and cushioned by World Heritage-listed national parks is a gastronomic wonderland, bursting with freshly grown produce and artful chefs highly skilled in the craft of making damn good food. The Scenic Rim is the sparkling gem in Queensland's crown of homegrown culinary goodness. With friendly farmers aplenty, a myriad of wineries, eclectic rural communities and good, old-fashioned country charm, you can't go wrong with a trip anywhere in this region. As if we didn't need another excuse to pop in the car for a winter road trip, the Scenic Rim is enticing Gold Coast and Brisbane locals to come and taste the best the region has on offer during the 11th Eat Local Week. From June 25 to July 3, snuggle up and prepare to breathe in the fresh country air as you taste, sip, nibble and delight in a bounty of events courtesy of some of Queensland's finest producers. Here's a snippet of some of the events you won't want to miss during Eat Local Week in 2022 ...

Meet the producer barbecue lunch at Picnic Real Food Bar – June 26
Celebrated chef and Eat Local cookbooks author Brenda Fawdon is joining forces with graziers Debbie and Rod Richardson from Running Creek Beef to host a sumptuous three-course barbecue lunch with matching Witches Falls wines. Hosted at the famed Picnic Real Food Bar perched up on Tamborine Mountain, prepare to sink your teeth into some free-range, grass-fed Running Creek Beef cooked perfectly over the coals while listening to Brenda, Debbie and Rod share some tricks of the trade. Tickets to this char-grilled chow down are $150 and can be purchased online.

City Chef Series at Blume Restaurant – June 28–July 1
Intimately nestled in Boonah’s quaint country streets is Blume Restaurant, the love child of brilliant young chef Jack Stuart. After earning rave reviews with his deft use of hyper-local produce, Jack has invited his chef mates from the big smoke to help create delectable degustation lunches over four delicious days. Tuesday will see Jack partner with Zach Tinsley from Congress Wine in Victoria for a wine-matched eight-course degustation lunch. On Wednesday, book your ticket for an equally exquisite degustation courtesy of Jack and Andy Ashby from C’est Bon in Wooloongabba. Thursday sees Phil Marchant and Finn Burgess from Essa Restaurant in Fortitude Valley travel out to assist with lunch. Finally, Matt Blackwell from GOMA restaurant in South Brisbane will help Jack round out four days of culinary perfection. Tickets to each lunch start at $260 and are guaranteed to sell out fast!

Christmas in July dinner at Rainforest Restaurant – July 2
Don your finest winter Christmas fare and cosy on up at Tamborine Mountain’s Cedar Creek Lodges for a festive Christmas in July dinner. Boasting a menu fit for Santa, you’ll be feasting on a three-course banquet showcasing the best of the Scenic Rim’s produce and sipping on perfectly paired drops from Witches Falls Winery. At $89 per person, we couldn’t think of a more perfect way to spend a chilly Saturday evening in July.

An evening at Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation – June 29
A night spent sipping coffee, wine and everything fine? Yes Please! The Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation is hosting a bespoke evening featuring curated food from across the Scenic Rim, expertly paired wines from Witches Falls Winery and coffee that has been grown, roasted and blended on-site. Not only will this evening leave your tastebuds humming, but it showcases a brilliant low food miles experience (reducing a food’s travel time keeps it fresher and decreases the carbon footprint!). Tickets to this caffeine-fuelled affair can be purchased online for $160.

Seed bomb workshops at Towri, hosted by Jasmine Urban Farms – June 29–July 1
A workshop for the little ones! Bring your budding urban farmers along to roll some seed bombs and learn about the benefits of bugs and why it is crucial for us to protect them and their environments. During the workshop, the kids will learn how bugs help with food production, plus the location at Towri Sheep Cheeses means you can sample the local produce while they say hello to a cute sheep or two! The seed bomb workshops are part of the broader Family Friendly Eat Local program, including sunrise camel rides and kids cheese-making workshops.

Magic Long Mushroom Lunch at Sarabah Estate Vineyard – July 1
If you consider yourself a fungi fanatic, reserve your spot at the table for this exclusive, three-course mushroom-inspired menu. Your mushroom-packed lunch will be set at the glorious Sarabah Estate, where you can sit back, sip on a complimentary glass of award-winning sparkling brut and savour the magic of locally produced mushroom-inspired meals. With only 50 tickets available at $100 each, there really is not mush-time to spare in reserving your seat at the table!
