Warm up your taste buds and prep for a weekend of fine food at Eat Local Week: Treat your senses to two days of feasting out in the Scenic Rim. Saturday brings the signature event of Eat Local Week – the Winter Harvest Festival. Hosted in Aratula from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, the festival aims to serve up the Scenic Rim on a platter. You can meet the farmers, taste the food, buy the produce, enjoy live entertainment and watch the annual tractor pull. We recommend cleaning out your esky and bringing your appetite because you shan’t be leaving empty-handed. Outside of the Winter Harvest Festival, this weekend also brings the opportunity to do art & tasting amongst the camels, make a vegetable and flower bouquet, head to the Magic Long Mushroom Lunch, enjoy a distillery tour, treat yourself to a chef’s table dinner and dig into a low & slow barbeque.
Rock out with your frock out at this massive fashion sale: If you consider yourself an op shop connoisseur, then gird your loins and get ready to spend Sunday sorting through a bounty of second-hand goodies at the Frockarama Fashion Sale. Run, forest, run! Lace-up your joggers for the Gold Coast Marathon: If, for some reason, the idea of running kilometres on end fills you with excitement, then head to the Broadwater Parklands in Southport on Saturday and Sunday for the 42nd Gold Coast Marathon. Why people choose to pay money to run really does baffle my non-athletic brain. Alas, we are here to cheer on those brave souls that have been training and are ready to have a crack at the events, which include the marathon, wheelchair marathon, half marathon, junior dashes and the Bravehearts 777 Marathon. Good luck!
Enjoy a beachside sonic meditation for the BLEACH* program launch: While BLEACH* Festival doesn’t officially start until August, the organisers are treating Gold Coast locals to a free, world premiere of BEACONS by renowned percussionist and composer Vanessa Tomlinson and sound artist Lawrence English.
