Fireside at HOTA: Fireside, a month-long series of events at HOTA (yes, real events with real people!) kicks into action this week, bringing together homegrown talent, food and conversation with a series of performances, intimate concerts and comedy shows held in the Lakeside Room on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There are plenty of events happening, but note that a lot of selling out ahead of time (including this Saturday’s Tex Perkins show and the opera event A Night at the Pink Poodle), so book ahead! Fireside: Stories in the Key of GC: Kicking off Fireside on Friday night is this unmissable night of storytelling in HOTA’s Lakeside room, where local wordsmiths will weave their tales in amongst a soundscape of live sound designed by ‘Cold Ghost’ – moniker for Gold Coast musician Fletcher Babb. Tickets are still available for the 7:00 pm show, just head here.
Fireside: Stories in Song at HOTA: The vibe will be laid back at HOTA on Sunday with music makers Felicity Lawless and Black Rabbit George treating your ears to live tunes in the Lakeside room from 2:30 pm, which will be followed by entertaining and personal discussions hosted by comedian Grant Busé .There are still limited tickets available here – be quick if you’re keen to head along!
BBQ Bazaar’s Reopening Night: Burleigh’s popular barbecue-inspired night market is back, baby! This Friday marks BBQ Bazaar’s official reopening weekend, with a killer line-up of food stalls and live music on both nights. Hitting the stage on Friday is Girl and Girl, Vallies and Sellin’ Petrol, while on Saturday Mojo Rising will send the tunes live and loud across the venue. Writers’ Block Workshop: Keen to jump into the wonderful world of short stories, novellas and novels? Don’t miss this free online workshop with Vogel Award winner, two-time QLA finalist, and Queensland Writers Fellowship recipient, Emily O’Grady. Gold Coast Fashion Market: Need to jazz up your wardrobe? Or perhaps you’ve had a clean out (go you) and you need to pass on some pre-loved wears? The Gold Coast Fashion Market is back this Saturday and Sunday (9:00 am to 1:00 pm), with new sellers each day. It’s held at the Albert Waterways Community Centre (opposite Pac Fair) and will be brimming with pre-loved clothing, shoes and accessories. Go forth and shop ’til you drop!
