Things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend

Things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend

We're on the tail end of winter, so it's time to get out there and enjoy the sunshine while it's still bearable! Luckily, there's plenty to keep you occupied this weekend. From the unmissable Stone & Wood Backyard Invitational beer festival to The Village Markets and live gigs  – here's what's on across the Gold Coast this weekend. Enjoy, friends!

Food, Drink and Markets
There’s a craft-beer festival happening in Burleigh this Saturday – and you need to be there! Following on from its inaugural event in Brisbane last year, Stone & Wood’s Backyard Invitational is bringing the party south to the Surfstitch carpark in Burleigh Heads with an afternoon of beer tastings, talks and masterclasses, live music, food trucks and good vibes. The legends at Stone & Wood have teamed up with 19 other indie brewers, two distilleries and a kombucha makers, with each hosting an intimate tasting stand to showcase their goods to beer lovers (from the curious to the connoisseurs). Plus, there will be a bunch of tasty food trucks on hand and a line-up of local music to set the tone! If you want to start the beer tasting early this weekend, get along to Friday Crafternoons at Club Talle – a month-long series of beer tastings with local brewers, and this week it’s Balter Brewing’s turn with meets, greets and tastings. How about a gnocchi feast this weekend? Head on down to Espresso Moto at Coolangatta – it now transforms into an after-dark gnoccheria on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (you can read more about it here). If you’re feeling a bit hazy after Saturday’s antics, start your Sunday the right way with a wander through The Village Markets, where you can explore the stalls, nibble on some tasty street eats and listen to awesome live music. For an afternoon filled with kombucha cocktails and delicious treats, head over to the Sunday Session at Aviary Rooftop Bar and listen to the sounds of this week’s alternative folk performer, Liv Heyer. Nobody wants to cook on Sunday night, so Surf Burger’s Ormeau Block Party is the perfect excuse to head out for a hearty dinner! Bring a picnic rug, deck chair and your esky and feast on yummy burgers and fries to close out your weekend. Cheese lovers, take note – there are just a few more weeks left to get along to the coast’s popular High Cheese Experience. Yes, like high tea, but with cheese and wine!

Live Music
On Friday night, hit up HOTA’s Fridays on the Lawn for an afternoon of laid back live music paired with tasty eats and cold bevvies – this week Danny Widdicombe will be hitting the stage. Gold Coasters can also check out The Australian Motley Crue Show at BBQ Bazaar on Friday night, catch lively rock duo The Gooch Palms at Vinnies Dive or get their boogie on at Shimmydisco’s funky set at The Cambus Wallace. There are plenty of live music choices on Saturday and Beatles fans can’t miss Abbey Road Live at The Star to celebrate the album’s 50th anniversary – it features Kram (Spiderbait), Mark Wilson (Jet), Davey Lane (You Am I) and Darren Middleton (Powderfinger), collectively known as ARC, who will faithfully and lovingly bring The Beatles’s most audacious creation to life on stage. If you’re looking for something a bit different, check out Veople, Agents of Confusion and Free the Genie at HOTA on Saturday for an evening of contemporary art, electronic sound and psych-groove tunes. You can also feast your ears on The Australian Buddy Holly Show at Gold Coast Italo-Australian Club, listen to trap bangers from Tori Levett at The Coolangatta Hotel or dance to the best R&B and old skool hits at Rewind II at Club Burleigh. On Sunday, listen to tunes from Angelo Pash at The Cambus Wallace or head over to BBQ Bazaar to check out its charity show to raise money for cancer research, featuring Mason Rack Band, Junkyard Blue, Dawn of Dusk and more!

Arts, Activities and Community
Unleash your inner creative and kick off the weekend with a cocktail in one hand and a paint brush in the other at the Paint and Sip at QT Gold Coast this Friday! The two-hour Sip and Paint session will satisfy your thirst for creativity (and, well, your thirst for delicious cocktails) as Maree Quinn of The Sweet Fine Artist studio in Mermaid Beach guides you step-by-step through the creation of your very own masterpiece! There’s also a Beer Yoga class at BSKT on Friday night if you’re keen to align your chakras with a frothie in hand. On Saturday, frock up for the Gold Coast Turf Club’s Garden Party and enjoy a morning of painting, sipping and nibbling on delicious grazing platters. If you’ve never taken part in a flashmob, this weekend is your chance! Head over to Burleigh Heads Beach on Saturday morning to dance (or watch) with a mammoth squad to take part in the coast’s first public open dance flashmob. In the evening, dance some more at Morena Espresso’s Latin Dance Party and enjoy great company, music and food. Get your blood flowing on Sunday morning at The Colour Run Love Tour’s Australian debut at Broadwater Parklands and immerse yourself pigment wonderland and party post-race at the happiest 5 km on the planet. Finish off your weekend at Frida Sol’s Noughties Themed Drag Trivia (so fetch!) for a night of cocktails, laughter and delicious food.
