It’s back! Take in Currumbin’s annual open-air art gallery at SWELL Sculpture Festival

It's one of the coast's favourite arts festivals and this week the pristine shores of Currumbin Beach will again transform into an open-air art gallery when this year’s SWELL Sculpture Festival kicks off on Friday September 10. The festival is celebrating 19 years of unmissable art and will create a spectacle on the beachfront with a jam-packed line-up of seaside installations, events, art workshops and live music.

SWELL Sculpture Festival brings the beachfront to life with an array of mind-blowing sculptures from local, national and international artists. Securing its place as Queensland’s largest outdoor sculpture exhibition, the festival will showcase more than 65 works that complement the unique beach backdrop. This year’s event will also see smaller sculptures sharing the spotlight at the return of the Dust Temple-based SWELL Smalls Gallery, as well as plenty of free activities as a part of SWELL Kids Elements, including artist talks with some of SWELL’s exhibiting artists, sculpture walks and outdoor cinema. Keen to find out more? Check out the full program here.

If you feel like getting your creative juices flowing by taking a second look at some of the coast’s existing locations, this year’s festival has heaps of pop-ups across the Gold Coast. From the SWELL Fringe and Smalls Gallery at the Currumbin creative hub Dust Temple to westerlySWELL at Mudgeeraba and Lower Beechmont, easterlySWELL at Chevron Island and northerlySWELL at Helensvale, no matter your neighbourhood you won’t have to travel far to experience this arty party.

Head over to Currumbin Beach from September 10–19 to experience SWELL Sculpture Festival’s knack for connecting people, art and place.
