Currumbin gets set to transform into an open-air art gallery with SWELL Sculpture Festival

The pristine shores of Currumbin Beach will again transform into an open-air art gallery when this year’s SWELL Sculpture Festival kicks off on Friday September 13. The ten-day festival is now in its 17th year, and will create a spectacle on the beachfront with a jam-packed line-up of seaside installations, events, art workshops and live music.

SWELL Sculpture Festival allows visitors to come face to face with a variety of sculptures from local, national and international artists. Securing its place as Queensland’s largest outdoor sculpture exhibition, the festival showcases up to 50 works that complement the unique beach backdrop. This year’s event will also see smaller sculptures sharing the spotlight at the SWELL Smalls Gallery, as well as plenty of free activities, including artist talks with some of SWELL’s exhibiting artists, twilight sculpture walks and an outdoor film screening of Rubber Jellyfish. Keen to find out more? Check out the full program here.

If you enjoy getting your creative juices flowing in a hands-on environment, this year’s festival has heaps of workshops for both adults and kids. Create your very own limestone sculpture with renowned artist Antone Bruinsma at his personal sculpting studio in Cedar Creek, or let the kids make an adorable clay turtle hatchling with Monte Lupo at the SWELL Pop-up Art Studio. Attendees can also showcase their photographic abilities with this year’s #SWELLsnap2019 Photography Competition, judged by Sean Scott himself! Head over to Currumbin Beach from September 13–22 to experience SWELL Sculpture Festival’s knack for connecting people, art and place.
