Sizzling cabarets, space cowboys to comedy icons – five unmissable events at The Spiegeltent Gold Coast

Sizzling cabarets, space cowboys to comedy icons – five unmissable events at The Spiegeltent Gold Coast

The coast first got a taste of The Spiegeltent when saucy stage show Blanc de Blanc graced us with (two) unforgettable, decadent and totally debaucherous seasons. Now, the world-renowned travelling entertainment venue is back – and it's bringing with it an intimate program of events unlike anything we've seen before. From April 17 to May 12, The Spiegeltent Gold Coast will host some of Australia's best music, comedy, theatre and cabaret acts – and while the entire line-up belongs firmly in the spotlight, we've hand-picked five of our favourites to stir some excitement for what's to come.

Matt Okine: The Hat Game, Friday April 19
A Friday night with Matt Okine and a small audience under The Spiegeltent? Yes, please! The Aria Award-winning comedian, actor and radio presenter is back on the Gold Coast for just one night to perform his new show The Hat Game. After following him across the radio waves, we’ve all now become familiar with Matt Okine on our TV screens – he wrote and starred in his very own hit series ‘The Other Guy’ on  Stan, and has hosted his own cooking show ‘Shortcuts to Glory’ on ABC. Now, we’ve all got a rare chance to see him live with the final leg of his stand-up comedy show happening under The Spiegeltent.

Joan As Policewoman: Damned Devotion, Wednesday May 1
This is a very unique chance to see extraordinary New York recording artist, live concert performer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Joan As Police Woman (Joan Wasser). Surrounded by an assembly that includes Parker Kindred (drums, vocals), Eric Lane (keys, vocals) and Jacob Silver (bass, vocals), Joan As Police Woman’s performance on May 1 kicks off the Australian tour of her acclaimed new album, Damned Devotion. This is a rare one-night-only performance – don’t miss it.

The Space Cowboy: Stranger Than Fiction, May 4
Love science? Love stunts? You’ll love this. It’s the brand-new show from 55-times Guinness World Record breaker The Space Cowboy, who will be joined by special guest and mad Scientist professor Patrick Sparks. Together the duo will push minds, bodies and science to the absolute brink with a bunch of mind-blowing, gob-smacking experiments that they will perform on themselves and others. Think blind-folded arrow catching, high-voltage electricity, and a series of entertaining, education and daring stunts that will leave your heart pounding and your jaw dropping.

Jordan Raskopoulos: Entropy and Irony, May 7
The Axis of Awesome’s lead singer Jordan Raskopoulos will grace the Gold Coast for an exclusive show of songs, stories and utter nonsense. The highly regarded comedian, actor, writer and speaker is well known for her multi-faceted entertainment career, her TEDx talk on High Functioning Anxiety and advocacy work supporting LGBTQI+ communities. This is going to be a banger show, where Jordan says she will “tell some stories, sing some songs, do a little dance and offer you some biscuits.” Yes, biscuits. How great. Don’t miss out on this charismatic, captivating and totally knee-slapping night.

Peter Helliar: Big Boy Pants, May 5
Avid viewers of The Project will be used to having Peter Helliar brighten up their evenings – but on Sunday May 5, you can spend a night face to face with one of the funniest guys in the country. His new show Big Boy Pants is touted as one of his best yet, so strap yourself in for a side-splitting night experiencing the wit and comical genius that is Peter Helliar. This is one popular guy and his show will be a sure-fire sellout, so be quick to get your tickets.

Friends! That’s just the tip of the (very big and highly entertaining) iceberg. Circus cabaret LIMBO Unhinged will be the hero of the month-long program, and there’s also unmissable performances like Katie Noonan’s Gratitude and Grief and so much more! Scope the entire event guide and get your tickets booked!
