Pop by Pipit to feast on hyper-local produce by award-winning chefs this August

Voted Australia's Best Regional Restaurant in 2020, Pipit in Pottsville is no stranger to damn good food. Inspired by the bounty of fresh produce coming out of the Northern Rivers and a passion for wood-fired cooking, Pipit has become a regular eating haunt for Gold Coast locals seeking out prime dining delight. Throughout August, the talented team at Pipit is inviting Gold Coast and Brisbane locals down for a range of tasty pop-up events that feature guest chefs, hyper-local menus and elevated Monday night bistros. Here's everything you need to know.

Pop-up events, in general, are a great way for restaurants and chefs to be creative and test new ideas. Pipit’s open-plan kitchen design makes this even more apparent, as guests can interact with chefs and take in all of the action from selected counter seats. The first pop-up event that will see chefs Jay Elbrihi and Sam Barlett Roylance show off their culinary flair is the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner hosted on Thursday August 18, from 6:00 pm. This seven-course set menu is centred around the idea that “what grows together, goes together” with a hyper-local, hyper-seasonal and low-waste focus. As the name suggests, each of the courses champions chicken in one way or another and includes stuffed chicken wings with sticky rice and green garlic, chicken skin mille-feuille with liver parfait and native raspberry, chicken chawanmushi with wasabi mustard and cured yolk, a lavishing chicken main that features breast confit in chicken fat with heart skewers and blood sausage, and a semifreddo and sweet chicken skin crumb drumstick for desert. Tickets to this clucking-good time can be purchased online for $160.

August 28 and 29 will see 2-hatted Melbourne chef Clinton McIver bring the best of his restaurant, AMARU, to Pipit. The special nine-course set menu is $190 and features a range of canapes, savoury and sweet courses, and petite fours. Diners can look forward to the likes of fresh mussels with pine mushroom, coral trout, smoked eel, venison, shiitake mushroom fudge and wagyu caramel. Finally, if you’re keen to avoid Monday night cooking, may we recommend Penny’s Night Bistro? Being at Pipit, this is no ordinary bistro meal. Rather, diners can expect delicious wines and quality local produce with a more casual a-la-carte format. Each week will see changing specials, with menu highlights including blue swimmer crab agnolotti pasta, dry-aged yellowfin tuna steak with celeriac and mushroom jus, and strawberry gum creme brulee. The bistro menu runs every Monday night in August, and bookings are highly recommended to ensure you don’t miss out.
