Eat, see and do – five unmissable events happening on the Gold Coast this January

We're only a few weeks in and already 2019 is looking mighty fine – so it's time to fill up your social calendar with goodness. From iconic rock concerts to ice-cream festivals, there's plenty happening across the Gold Coast this January. We've picked out five of the best that need to be on your radar.

Gins and Tins at Miami MarkettaThursday January 17
If you love beer and have a soft spot for gin (that should cover all of you), then Miami Marketta’s Gins and Tins event will be right up your alley. The tasting event will see Balter Brewing Company hold hands with Husk Distillers (the makers of Ink Gin) to celebrate all-things beer and botanical. The two brands will present tastings of their classics, with brewers and distillers on hand to answer questions from curious sippers. Tickets are limited, so don’t sit on your hands.

Summer Ice Cream Festival at NightQuarterSaturday January 19
NightQuarter has brought us dessert festivals, cocktail festivals and even cob-loaf festivals – now, in true seasonal style, we’re getting a Summer Ice Cream Festival! Soak up the nostalgia at the Helensvale night market and indulge in a seriously frosty line-up of classic icy treats, from ice-cream-filled donuts to ice-cream cocktails, ice-cream cookie sandwiches, honey puffs with ice-cream, fries and ice-cream, and even ice-cream dog treats! Diet? What diet?

Fame The Musical at HOTA, Thursday January 24 to Saturday January 26
We’d be lying if we said the Fame theme song didn’t occasionally (regularly) pop up on our Spotify rotation. An all-new production of the iconic Broadway musical is coming to HOTA this January, with the cast to feature 40 of Queensland’s emerging musical-theatre stars. Expect a high-energy show that will surely have you dancing in your seat – there’s only a short series of performances, so gather the crew and enjoy a night at the theatre!

Hotter Than Hell at Broadwater Parklands, Sunday January 27
Relive the classic era of Livid, Homebake and Big Day Out (what a time) when Hotter Than Hell takes over Southport’s Broadwater Parklands. This year’s line-up is killer, with the likes of Spiderbait, Shihad, Killing Heidi, Bodyjar, 28 Days and Area-7 hitting the stage as part of the blazing Aussie-rock tour. The Australia Day public holiday is on Monday January 28, so you have permission to really let your hair down and rock out.

Seaside Sounds at Kirra, Sunday January 27 to Sunday February 24
The popular free(!) beachside music series is back for a month of live and local music every Sunday at Roughton Park in Kirra. The first of Seaside Sounds’ 2019 series kicks off Sunday January 27 (ahem, it’s a long weekend) and continues with a rotating line-up each week until Sunday February 24. The first event will feature high-energy beats from The Twine and smooth tunes from Josh Lovegrove, so dust off the picnic rug and head on down.
