Loosen those belt buckles – here’s five local foodie events you need to be at this autumn

While we're loving that the daily temperatures are a little more bearable now, one of our favourite things about transitioning into the (slightly) cooler months is seeing a new wave of seasonal produce hit the kitchens. Summer may be over, but things are starting to heat up on the events circuit, so we've cut through the crowd and hand picked five fun and seriously tasty food (and drink) events happening across the Gold Coast to help you celebrate the best of autumn.

Bottomless Brunch at Aviary Rooftop Bar, Saturday April 13
Croque madame pizzas. Belgian waffles. Bottomless sips. If that sounds like the way you’d like to spend your Saturday (on April 13, to be exact) then you won’t want to miss Aviary’s popular Bottomless Brunch. There will be free-flowing Prosecco, wine and beer, as well as bottomless custom spritzers. That’s right, DIY spritzers – how great! There will also be a series of delicious brunch-style pizzas circulated, including huevos rancheros pizzas topped with scrambled eggs and bacon, and breakfast pizzas with chorizo, mushroom, egg and crispy maple bacon. Plus, there will be a grazing station full of brunch bites like breakfast sliders, Belgian waffles, fresh fruit, bircher pots and yoghurt jars. All of that for just $49 over two hours. What a spread. Last tickets are on sale here for this one – be quick.

Feast on Fifth, Saturday April 27
Forming part of the incredible Bleach* Festival 2019 program, Feast on Fifth is back again this year to light up Fifth Avenue in Palm Beach for food and music for one night only. Avid feasters will be taken on a tour that will be equal parts melodic and mouth watering. The restaurants will be open, food trucks will be lining up to dish out deliciousness, while the stage will feature the likes of The James St Preachers, Sarah Frank and everybody’s favourite party starers, the Hanlon Brothers. Arrive hungry and ready to dance!

Slinging Plates at Barrio, Tuesday April 30
If you’re yet to try Barrio in Byron Bay, aka the delicious eatery from the team at Harvest Newrybar and renowned chef Francisco Smoje, then this is the perfect chance to experience the greatness. On the last Tuesday of every month, Barrio head chef Francisco Smoje invites a chef friend to join him in the kitchen for one night only – it’s all designed to let diners try something new. On Tuesday April 30, he’ll be hitting the knives alongside chefs Andres and Franco from A Chefs Pocket to dish up the authentic and vibrant soul food of Peru, utilising fresh and local Northern Rivers produce. The trio will be slinging plates for $10 and $20, plus wines by Jed Merchant. A fun, easy and flavour-packed night – get on this.

Wild Harvest with Attica’s Ben Shewry, Wednesday May 1
If you’ve always dreamed of dining at three-hatted Attica, one of the world’s top 50 restaurants led by one of Australia’s best chefs – the brilliant Ben Shewry – here is your chance. Ben is coming to Byron Bay for an exclusive once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. It’s happening on Wednesday May 1 at Harvest Newrybar for its Wild Harvest event, which will see Ben spend a day foraging with Harvest’s Alastair Waddell and wild food researcher Peter Hardwick, before coming back to the kitchen to produce a one-off five-course menu. Tick it off your bucket list and book your spot before it sells out (it absolutely will).

Nineteen at The Star’s Autumn Lunch, Fridays and Saturdays until the end of May
Fine-dining space Nineteen at The Star has launched the Autumn edition of its set-menu lunches, which are available on Fridays and Saturdays until the end of May. If you’re yet to experience Nineteen, this is the perfect way to do it – and it’s a lot more affordable than you think. For $55 you can indulge in a two-course lunch, prepared by head chef Kevlin Andrew and the team, utilising some of the finest produce of the season. It’s a set menu, but you’ll get to choose from three entrees and three mains. Think dishes like grain-fed seared beef carpaccio with tuna sauce, confit duck leg with sweet potato and jus gras, and grilled ocean trout with olive oil and lemon. Did we mention the views?
