Top chefs and ceramicists join forces to combat hunger with Empty Bowls

Top chefs and ceramicists join forces to combat hunger with Empty Bowls

Gold Coast, it's time to lend a hand. This Saturday September 15, Currumbin's Dust Temple will host Empty Bowls, an event that will bring together some of the region's top chefs and artists to support the local charities that work hard to fight hunger in our community.

Empty Bowls is an internationally renowned project that is adopted regionally with the support of local artists and restaurants. Basically, what happens is local potters and ceramicists create and donate bowls, while a simple meal is created by a local culinary wizard. Guests come along to the event and choose a bowl that they like – a subtle reminder of all of the empty bowls in the world – which is then filled with deliciousness from a restaurant or cafe. In exchange for the bowl and meal, the guests (aka you) contribute a donation to a local charity or not-for-profit organisation.

So, for the Gold Coast edition of Empty Bowls, there are some very big names involved, with all proceeds going to Agape Outreach Inc, which assists homeless and less-fortunate individuals and families. The bowls (which you’ll take home with you!) are being created and donated by the likes of the wildly talented Marloe Morgan (Marloe Marloe), Grit Ceramics, Sit Still Lauren, Harvest Clay and a whole bunch more – you can find the full list of contributing artists over here. On top of that, Cabarita’s Paper Daisy, Tugun’s Stable Coffee Kitchen, Currumbin’s Elephant Rock Cafe, Tallebudgera’s Parlour Coffee and Casuarina’s Tucker will each be providing tasty meals to fill the bowls with. A high five to all of ’em.

Friends, do not miss this! Empty Bowls kicks off at 4:30 pm on Saturday September 15 at Dust Temple. You can head online for more information and to purchase tickets.
