The Arts Centre’s latest production Blue Love makes light of relationships with quirky physical theatre

Multi-award-winning choreographer Shaun Parker is taking the stage at the Arts Centre Gold Coast this month with his latest production Blue Love. The intense, high-energy parody combines physical theatre with film and dance, as the two-person show explores the concept of love by taking audiences through the journey of searching for the perfect relationship. If you're a fan of physical theatre and comedy, then this is one show you will not want to miss.

Blue Love invites you into the living room of characters Glenn (played by Shaun Parker) and Rhonda (Jo Stone), and takes you on an expedition of love and relationships, incorporating a satirical approach to the cliches of pop culture, romance, coupledom and suburbia. Now, you know we love a good backstory, so we were very intrigued to learn that the concept of Blue Love came to Shaun Parker when he was at a karaoke bar in Vienna singing 80s love ballads. It was this karaoke bar that sparked the creation of one of the scenes you’ll see in Blue Love, which is based entirely around the one-liners from the best pop love songs of all time. So great.

Along with music, Blue Love also takes inspiration from famous films, theatre and works of art and fuses these with intense physical theatre and dance. Shaun, who has choreographed for So You Think You Can Dance and was a featured dancer in Moulin Rouge, has combined his dance skills with multi-media to create a challenging and quirky production based on physical movement … with an added dash of unpredictable humour. Blue Love is being held at the Arts Centre Gold Coast from Wednesday September 27 to Saturday September 30. Keen for a fun night out at the theatre? Get the crew together and get your hands on some tickets over here.
