Prepare to boogie – five artists to catch at this year’s BIGSOUND

Prepare to boogie – five artists to catch at this year’s BIGSOUND

In case you've been living under a rock (if so, we hope you're comfy), we're pretty stoked to tell you that BIGSOUND, the southern hemisphere’s biggest celebration of new music, is back! Set to take over Fortitude Valley from September 6–9, the ripper festival boasts a jam-packed line-up of homegrown and international stars. We've handpicked five not-to-be-missed artists that will rock the stages of BIGSOUND.

Alter Boy
One primo performance that can’t be missed at this year’s BIGSOUND is courtesy of alt-pop collective Alter Boy. Fronted by vocalist, Molly Priest, Alter Boy brings a new take on musical production and presentation – think dreamy pop bops, eye-catching theatrics and out-of-this world costuming. They also spotlight accessibility and inclusion, making their music accessible to those who are hard of hearing by incorporating AUSLAN into their live performances. What champions!

The Terrys
If you’re looking to have a good ol’ fashioned boogie, then let us introduce to you The Terrys. Gerringong locals Jacob Finch (vocals), Lukas Anderson (lead guitar) and Ben Salvo (rhythm guitar) began teaching each other to jam in their shared trailer house, owned by landlord/legend, Terry. Many noise complaints and two additional members later – Cameron Cooper (drums) and Trent Cooper (bass) – Terry agreed to lend the fully formed band his name. The result is a band that will have you smiling from ear to ear with their infectious energy and surf-rock bangers.

Budjerah
Homegrown R&B star Budjerah has quickly found fame over the past couple of years, capturing the attention of music lovers all over. Since the release of his debut EP ‘Conversations’, the musical wunderkind has continued his rise to stardom, featuring on a remix of Ed Sheeran’s hit single ‘2Step’ in May and taking his tunes on a world tour. This 20-year-old Coodjinburra musician is making waves, so consider attendance at his gig mandatory.

WIIGZ
Those in the mood to party are in for a treat when WIIGZ hit the stage in September. Having established an enthusiastic fan base and touring with the likes of Sofi Tukker and Client Liaison, the dance/pop duo are set to take BIGSOUND by storm. With inimitable style, WIIGZ direct, edit, produce, perform and organise all their own content, music and video productions. We love a multi-talented threat.

The Buckleys
Byron Bay produces some of Australia’s best tune makers, and sibling trio The Buckleys are further proof of this. Signing with Chris Murphy’s Petrol Records in 2019, The Buckleys are the only other band on the label alongside INXS. Their tunes meld a number of genres – think pop, country, Americana and indie-rock. Their debut album ‘Daydream’ was a smash hit, and has been followed successfully by new EP ‘Take It As It Comes’. They are guaranteed to enchant your senses this September.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the beautiful bounty of artists set to descend on Brisbane this September for BIGSOUND. To peep the full line-up for the festival and to grab tickets, head to the BIGSOUND website.
